That could produce the most heated derby in a long time. Owen back at Anfield playing for Everton shortly after leaving United.

Would any Liverpool fan give a toss who Owen plays for anymore. If I was a Liverpool fan I'd find it funnier that the wash up continues to fall further and further since leaving for Spain.

Anyone see Owen on Goals on Sunday this morning, lets just say he's still certainly not lacking in self belief :p

To be fair he's probably lacking in pace these days because of injuries but his 'natural' finishing ability is something I doubt he could ever lose unless you chopped one of his legs off. If he gets played through 18 yards out, he's gonna score 12 times out of 10 so I don't blame him at all for wanting to try and stay with a PL club and play at the highest level. His agent probably had every club in the football league ringing about him. :D

It is optimistic though. You responded to the suggestion that he's a scorer of great goals rather than a great goal scorer (which is something that anyone with eyes has started to wonder at this point)...

You've got confused somewhere along the line. I wasn't disputing the scorer of great goals/great goalscorer part. I was disputing the part of Loki's post where he said we need an Owen/Rush type player.

Who knows whether Suarez starts banging goals in for fun but either way I don't think the answer is simply an Owen/Rush type striker in the side.

As I mentioned, with us playing a 4-3-3, unless we can bring in a top class striker then I wouldn't want Suarez playing anywhere other than the central role. Where we need to improve is the other attacking players supporting Suarez. Let Suarez create the chances in and around the penalty area (rather than do his work 40 yards away which would be the case if you moved him outwide) but bring in players that will get into the box from the wide positions to (help) finish those chances off.

I mentioned last season that I can't remember another player of his ability and that's had a career as good as his, that will retire and not be remembered fondly by supporters of any club he's played for.

With you now, I was led astray by your entire post focussing on Suarez :p.

But yeah I'd agree, job one is sorting out some players to create the chances, someone to finish them comes next. A fox in the box won't be much use with nobody putting them on a plate for him.

Suarez does his best work running in to the box from out wide so playing him centrally only highlights his deficiencies and limits his abilities imo.

We've been linked with plenty of players over the past few weeks but it doesn't look like Dempsey will be joining us and I don't hold much hope of getting Tello but yesterday highlighted yet again how lacking we are in attack.

I'm not sure that's when he's at his best - imo he's at his best when he receives the ball in tight situations in and around the penalty area. If you play him centrally, he can still drift outwide anyway.

My concern with moving him to the left of a front 3 is that he'll spend too much time tracking back and when he is receiving the ball, he'll be closer to the halfway line than the oppositions goal.

If we had a good enough striker to come in for him in then I'd be more open to playing Suarez wide but I don't think what we've got or what we could get will be good enough though. I can't think of many strikers with his work rate and ability to lead the line, playing the way Rodgers wants to play.

True enough, even for England it feels like he scored half the goals he should have gone on to score.:(

can't help but feel a little sorry for adam but i really don't believe he is premiership standard, he's a good championship player.

i can maybe see another pl club buying him but what kind of wages is he on at liverpool? surely he'd have to take a cut. i suppose £5m in today's market wouldn't be a bad buy, just can't see who would go for him. only way i can see him going is as part of a deal.

given a chance to shine but was never really going to deliver.

because Tom84 questioned why they bought him in the first place

I know what Tom asked, I'm still not sure what your post is meant to mean though.

Answering Tom's question, Adam Johnson for the price City paid was a fairly decent punt. Even with him not living up to his potential, City are still likely to sell him for more than he cost.

There were quotes from Adam earlier today which more or less confirmed that he'd be told he can leave, however he wants to stay and prove himself. I hope and expect that one way or another he'll be off before the end of the window.

That article also has quotes from Rodgers talking about the difficulty in shifting Joe Cole too. If we can get any sort of half decent offer for him, I'm sure he'll be shown the door too. Not sure we'll get that offer though.

Could see Big Sam taking Cole back to West Ham. Playing for his boyhood club might get a bit of form out of him.

How much would West Ham be willing to pay him though? £30-40k per week, maybe. That leaves us still paying £60-70k - we may as well keep him as a squad player if that's all we're going to save.

I wonder how long it will take King Brenny to fall out of love with Downing.

I mean he must have a bit of a clue as a manager seeing as he's been trying to shift Carroll all summer and now told Adam he can sling his hook As well.
