Ubisoft at it again, 93-95% of PC Gamers are pirates.

Pirate them? I can't remember the last time i even wanted to play an Ubisoft game since Farcry which is sitting on my shelf. Perhaps if they made better games...

I pirated Dust and i'm glad i did as tons of people wanted refunds, since then i've never touched another product from Ubisoft

Considering i played far cry 3 at an event and puked :(

Not that I am one to defend publishers sledgehammer approach to DRM of which Ubisoft are market leaders

I think its important to note that the percentage quoted is based on particular 'territories' and although he does not name which territories I assume he is refering to China, which makes sense considering how flippant they are with Copyright Law.

Wait, what?!

Yeh

Rezzed, I was able to sample Far Cry 3 however they

1) Gave me a controller ( PC gaming event )
2) Didn't know what the keys were mapped to
3) Didn't know how to remap
4) Didn't know what FOV was or what it was set to
5) Very scripted
6) Headshots were not one hit kills, they just bounced back and ran towards you
7) Graphics were not that amazing, water looked nice that was it

Remember that as CEO he's answerable to shareholders for poor performance. "It's all those ebil piwates" sounds a lot better than "I'm doing a **** job of running the company".

And all that does is **** PC gamers off even more which leads to more people "Pirating" the game, aka not buying it leading to less sales.

Here's a thing though

Say I purchased anno 2070 from ubisoft, did not like the DRM went onto a torrent and grabbed anno+crack, they'd class that statistic as a pirate :)

You'd kinda hope that some of the shareholders are actually grounded in reality and call him on some of this bs.

And how do you have a statistic that is '93% to 95%' anyway? Surely if they actually had evidence to support that statement it would be an exact value?

Its obviously an issue with pc gamers, but Ubisoft are well within their rights to try and protect their games, we do all know though that games are pirated no matter what protection is put on them.

The biggest way forward is sensible pricing, the steam sales show how much we all buy when things are 75% off, if games all cost £5-10 rather than £30-50 then more people would buy on impulse, at £30, you think well I might as well wait till the inevitable steam sale. I bought Counterstrike GO this week as it was cheap, Im not sure ill play it much yet but its the price of 3 pints of beer, its an impulse purchase.

Did they do the poll on a warez site or something?

They probably saw that there had been 94 downloads and worked it out from the 6 they had sold. :p

It's clearly a number that has been pulled out of ones rectum unless everyone is conspiring not to buy Ubisoft games.

As people have already pointed out, all games have a pirate version that can be obtained. Ubi with their DRM are just forcing more legitimate customers down the pirate route because they don't want to deal with the DRM any longer. Absolutely shocking business sense.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun is read by over 92% of the Earth’s population, and our most frequent readers are in the top 15% most attractive people on Earth! Yes, we all love statistics we don’t provide any evidence for.

And it just gets better from there, brilliant stuff :)

It is a nonsense statement.

I know I am in the minority here but I enjoy several franchises developed by Ubi. I'm looking forward to Far Cry 3, and Assassins's Creed 3 this year.

The DRM is a pain, but I really don't see the point in all the paper waving in the air, and boycotting games due to a "principle". If I enjoy the game I will play it.

Well, it is a bit like a shop assistant saying to you "Hey you, you look like a thieving little toerag, want to buy something?"
