The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I thought it would already be done, I watched youtube vids. of walking in stations years ago. Before the first youtube design change, that is how long ago.

The first vids were vapourware in the finest tradition.

They did some cool looking mockups. They then scrapped all of that work when they got to looking at how they were going to actually implement all that.

Are they actually going to implement walking around stations?

Also could anyone point me in the direction of video guides for tutorial/advanced tutorials (those ones where you choose business/military etc.) since the in game tutorial is starting to be a bit garbage. I.e. expecting me to know to jump to a stargate then click anywhere in space and select go to objective even though that option isn't available before the stargate, all a bit confusing :p

I hope not.

It will bring nothing to the game and cost a huge amount of dev time.

I play Eve for spaceship pvp, not hitting a /dance emote in an e-pub.

How would social human and AI interaction via ship/station walking bring nothing to the game?

Just playing for spaceship pvp means this:
coloured squares and lines. It's like watching an dynamic excel spreadsheet...fun

I'd like to see proper walking in stations some day, but I don't want it at the expensive of flying in space!
I'm sure they could sort out resourcing so they can do both at once...

Do you even play Eve? Im going to guess not.

There is plenty (read: much more than WoW, etc.) human interaction. Its done via text, in space. Whether or not I can interact with that person as a 3D avatar or just their facial picture makes no odds. 99.9% of social interaction (bar trading) in Eve is done out in space, at which point you wont be able to WiS anyway.

What actually interactions do you see happening in the virtual station after the first week and the novelty wears off? My vote is on hardly anything.

I know that EVE not too long ago introduced the ability to walk about a hanger as your 3rd person self, but will it ever feature a 'Citadel' esque environment like in the Mass Effect series? The ability to walk around a station like in Mass Effect but in the MMO setting of EVE would be absolutely insane.

I hope so. Jita 4-4 should be like the citadel, whilst POS/quiet stations should be more like Omega :D Either that or bioware should just make ME Online.

Really walking in stations should be scrapped. I would rather see windows in stations than walking in stations so i can look at and see how many hostiles are waiting for me to undock :)

Walking in stations is just advanced ship spinning and i really don't see how it would improve the game or its revenue.

Personally I think it would be a cool little addition to allow players to mingle aboard a station without all the worries of space combat etc, I mean I understand that it's not really necessary but I guess it would help with immersion, could be an excuse to introduce new skills for trade and diplomacy perhaps?

Any race can fly any ship in the game, it makes virtually no difference which one you pick. Most pick their race based on the look/style of the race, or the background story.

However, keep in mind the standings system for the races. If you do a lot of missions for Minmatar and/or Gallente, you'll lose Caldari rep and you'll need to farm your Caldari standings back up if you want to gain access to the busiest trading hub in the game, Jita.

To be fair it takes some effort to get empire standings below -5 and even then you can just train connections and diplomacy.

Update;

Veto-corp disbanded

That is all

9 year Eve vet, so yup I know my pew pew!

There is an art to ship spinning, as it focuses your hand to eye co-ordination.

I'm clearly not going to be ready for a corp until I'm familiar with everything, but is there an official OcUK corp?

I don't agree, you will learn at a faster rate if you get into a player run corp, its when you stay in the NPC corps that you can fall behind.

The player run corps are where it all begins, and as you outgrow each corp, you progress on to other corps with different challenges.

If your new, I really do suggest EVE Uni, they help with skill books and small ships. They will teach you a lot of things aswell. When your ready and have good ISK flow, make an alt on the buddy program and train him for a week to fly PVP frigates and go into Red Fed or Blue Rep (RvB) and have some pew pew fun.
