Yeah I think they're the same resolution, or near enough. I was just concerned that displaying a full page from a textbook on the N7 may make the fonts too small to read comfortably? I just can't seem to decide on a 7" or 10" form factor, I guess I need to get hands on with both!

The S-Pen is definitely an interesting device, but I'll leave that for another tread :).
 
Anyone seen any replacement screens yet? Mine fell off my bed and the back came slightly apart. In sqeezing it back on I cracked the screen so now need a new one.
 
Just nipped into the purple shirt place to have a play with a Nexus. The display model had screen lift all down one side, and did the LCD style screen colour thing when you pressed on it :rolleyes:

The Samsung Tab 2 on the other hand had no issues, and felt a lot more solid and better made than the nexus, which was a surprise after the fisher price S2 and S3.

Really? I thought they were light and plasticy compared to the top end HTC range or the Nokia Windows phones.

The Tabs definitely felt far better made than the 7 though.
 
Having owned both the Tabs and Nexus 7 I can honestly say that the Tab felt more "premium" and had a better build quality.

I regret selling on Tab 7.0 plus on and am seriously thinking of getting another one but will wait to see what goodies the IFA will bring over the next few days before making a decision.

Yes. I want light. I don't want a piece of stone in my pocket. Yes, they're made of plastic, but if you hold a sheet of paper on a wall and tap it, it's pretty solid still, no? The SGS2 was so well put together, every spec of space was used. Compare that to some of the creaking messes that HTC released* prior to their One range and they felt very premium to me.

Modern plastics are expensive stuff. Why do people equate weight to quality?

The Xperia S, for example, did feel a little hollow, so to me it felt a little cheap even though it weighed in at 144g.

* My Desire HD would leave part of the phone behind when I took it out of my pocket. The Desire Z would swing open if you lay on you back and held it over you. The Sensation would rock back and forth inside the body if you pressed either side of the screen. All of them creaked and groaned when you press different places on it. The SGS2 wouldn't move, creak or groan in the least bit.

Skeeter, you have a Sensation don't you?

That's not especially well put together, the overall design of it is rubbish from a durability perspective.

Whats wrong with the design 'from a durability perspective'? I love the in the hand feel of it. The software has been its biggest let down though. Sense has lost its way, and the random restarts are getting annoying.

The way it slots into the shell is just a bit of a creaky mess, when using it, there's a bit of give that you can notice sometimes. :(

It feels nice though, but then so do the Samsung phones.
 
I've never noticed any creak or movement. It feels rock solid. To me it felt far more premium than the S2, which was the alternative when I got it. Coming from a vanilla Android Milestone Sense also drew me in, but now that the vanilla Android experience has really stepped up with the latest versions its less of a consideration.

Other than the lack of landscape home screens (might be a setting?) I think vanilla Android 4.0 is spot on.
 
Yeah, but then people think they can snap an S2 in half... (which I disagree with) and you would never do that in normal use either :)

I guess my point might be, I judge build quality by how solid or hollow it feels, does it creek or move when pressed, not by it's weight, which seems to be how a lot of people judge. In my opinion, the S2 is solid, sturdy and ultra light :)
 
Well the Nexus 7 I played with today was both light and plastic feeling, and creaked and moved when I used it, so it should be considered cheap by both of us :D
 
Not really. Mine doesn't feel plasticy and there's only very minimal creaking when yanked about with a lot of force.

I know some have issues, mine seems fine and is incredibly good build quality for £200 in my opinion. :)
