How Clubbing changed the world

I started 'cheese' clubbing in 1998, then proper clubbing in 2000. Carried on until 2009 (aged 30) then I hit financial troubles. Would have carried on otherwise but I was out of work for a year then into a minimum wage job.

Best years would have been 2002-4 while Sundissential was still going strong. Any clubs that have an RGB laser, which were few and far in between. Loved the Tidy weekenders too.

He is without doubt the best drum & bass DJ there is, and voted as such around the world :)

I think 6 hours of him will be insane. Just 6 hours of the best drum & bass tracks of all time.
he always wins that award, its not worth anything.
Ive seen him do a 3 hr set before, that was more than enough, its not the best tracks of all time, its just a montage of ram records releases with ram dubs, and ram are quite poor nowadays, cant remember the last ram release that wowed me.

He wins that award because he's who drum & bass djs think is the best DJ. If it doesn't mean anything why haven't you, or anyone else for that matter, won it? His technicality is amazing, he knows just how to tailor a combination of build ups and drops from multiple tracks to set off a dancefloor in a way that no-one else can. Hence why he is and will continue to be the best dnb, if not one of the best djs in general ever.

As for Ram, well, Delta Heavy. Says it all :). His tracks are bringing quite a bit of innovation to dnb :)

I expect some people during the 'golden years' you mention were there thinking the old days were much better. Looking back is for losers.

I think this is my favourite post ever.

Don't waste time reminiscing, enjoy things as they are now!

Just think of all the good music that would never had been made if people just spent the whole time looking back to how good things were.

firstly, the drum and bass awards are not voted for by djs, they are voted for by anybody, and there are about 10 'best dj' categories, so...do you vote? do i vote? nope. hardly the best reflection of 'best dj' i guess its more a respect thing
As for his technicality, yes, hes quick, but did you ever hear about the time he got caught using pre pitched vinyls, still good though, but I dont always like what he plays nowadays.

How do you think delta heavy is innovating dnb then? I find that an amusing statement seeing as dnb is constantly shifting over several different genres! btw, hes only had 2 releases in the last 2 years, unless you count a track on ram100 release

I'm going to ignore the first part as, well, it's pointless.

As for delta heavy:

Space Time
Get By (DnB Mix)
Quad Bikes (Delta Heavy Remix)
Abort
Turbine

And those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head :)

yes thats the point, 'best dj' is pointless

I see you have named some tracks you like, but thats not really showing how 2 producers are innovating dnb as you say.

Im not being an ass intentionally, I just dont agree with you at all, youre talking about a type of music Ive loved for 20 years, and I have a collection of somewhere in the region of 70,000 tracks dating back through dnb, jungle and old skool hardcore to 91, Im grabbing new releases every monday (except for jump up, cant stand it) and I follow the music closely, I dont see any innovation from delta heavy.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on the best Dj front.

As for Delta Heavy, I was just showing you that he had more than the 2 tracks you thought he did. Might want to have a listen to them :)

And that's quite a collection. I have about 8000 digital downloads, half of which are drum and bass. I delete the ones that I don't listen to or like anymore frequently, or keep them if I want to use them in sets.

Why don't you like Jump Up? What about it can't you stand?

And I'm not being an arse intentionally either, I'm just curious :)

oh right, when i said he had only 2 releases I didnt mean 2 tracks, his only releases in the last 2 years was ram107 Overkill / Hold Me and ram115 Down The Rabbit Hole, 7 tracks (get by x3 = 1 track to me) there plus 1 from ram100. Space time is 2010, from his first release. I have all his stuff.
I dont believe in 'best dj' I listen to a dj for their style of play, I dont want to hear a dj who plays to the crowd, I want to hear one who has a solid taste and style so I can avoid tunes that do nothing for me (jump up)

Jump up is moronic, there is no depth, no melody, simple bassline, simple beat, every track is the same to me, every once in a blue moon there is one I will use, but very very rarely, I still flick through releases from certain artists though.
I like something a bit more gritty, a bit more filth, rolling bassline

Fair enough on all points :)

Can I link you to a track I made a while back and get your input? I'm strongly considering finding the original .rns file and finishing it properly. I've had feedback from a few people saying I should give it a go, but obviously you have a lot better knowledge of DnB than them :)

It needs mastering and eqing properly, it's a rough draft, I just need to know if it's a sound base with which to work from :)

As an avid listener of things and critic of things I cannot do. :) I'd say if you started again with something completely different, you might be on to something!! ;)

Lol no seriously its starts well, I liked the rythmn if it didn't sound so 80s gameboy, think you missed an oppurtunity to drop it at 44s into a slightly different tempo. Seem like it was more a repeat of the start there. Liked the first 44 seconds, like the end but the middle needs work I suppose.

Like I said, can't do it, don't know anything about it but I may not know art but I know what I like.

Haha why?

And cheers for the input ChroniC :) I'm just trying to find the file now, think it might be on my mates' pc. I've found quite a few tracks that I want to get finished now :)

That picture of him apparently djing, with all the faders down, depressed me so much :(

Which is why I'm working hard to be able to DJ properly. :D

lol, yeah I have heard some dodgy stories about him, dont like that type of music at all or him as a DJ producer,

Also check this out :p
