Alienware m18x or m17x r4?

No reason why not Sam, you can put a 7970 in a M17x3 or M17x2 :) By the same token, I think next years ones will be on the sandybridge chipset too, so when your putting your GPU in, price of 3820's or 39xx will have dropped to a reasonable level too to give a nice boost.

Usually about 5 days bud.

Cheers for your help mate, probably the route i will go down unless we can get the same kind of deals on the outlet and then ill probably just buy another :D. Still stoked at how much of a steal this was !!

One last question, im really tempted to flash the GPU however im a little worried i may do damage. Do you think it will affect the lifespan?.

I would also really appreciate a bit of help with the process if you dont mind ;):)

Sure, providing you dont overvolt it, it wont make any difference whatsoever, just stick to the figure I went for, it was easy as pie.

Download this --> http://www.techinferno.com/downloads/?did=27

rename the 940-1400.rom to anything you want to make it easier to input, say newbios.rom

use this guide to flash ---> http://forum.techinferno.com/genera...738-[guide]-amd-vbios-flashing.html#post21467

Its pretty easy - takes two minutes and voila, you have yourself a 10-15% boost. :)

Mark

Thanks !!

Ive dropped you an email via trust regarding some instructions making the bootable usb drive (i have no idea). I cannot see the pictures etc on that forum.

Cheers

Just one.
1600x900 screen with 660m for 710 exc VAT.

Doing my head in, its the only day I've been at a desk at the required time and nothing good available.

my mistake, your probably right with the 660 i was trying to click so didnt pay that much attention, i dont think it had a blu ray player like im after anyway

try again tommorow

it is worth checking at later times, i got one last week about 4pm, I dont know if it had been floating around someones baskets for a few hours but it was the best spec one I had seen although scratch and dent, but it was a 7970, 1920x1080 screen 3820 cpu and 8gb ram for £1000 inc vat

Yeah it's worth doing that I guess. I do wonder if those models are randoms that Dell just put on or if they are indeed models that had been in someone's basket. Difficult to establish I guess.

Not working well as what, crossfire I presume?

Its funny, they never seem to get it all right, the 580's were crippled in the r3 but the 6990's single and crossfire were fine.

Seems to be pot luck if you get a good set of 7970s from what ive read plus lack of drivers. To many problems i want stress free gaming :)

I actually thought my 580 in my r3 was brilliant.

It had a thermal throttle at a certain temp, so it depended how good your airflow and cooling was in the machine, if it was fine you never noticed, you would have noticed if you had, it crippled it.

If my mate managed to get a m17x R4 through the outlet would he be able to buy through Dell finance?

Edit - Answer to this is no

Cheers

First thing I did when I got it was flash the modded bios to get past the first throttle :)
