Ford Mustang is coming in Right Hand Drive...in 2015

Thus we will end up with, in my opinion, a lardy American inspired mustang looking thing, with a rubbish interior and mediocre performance from some kind of EcoBoost I4 engine. Not that I have an issue with fords new engines, they are awesome, just not in a mustang!

That may happen - but it's not the plan. This is another of Ford's "world cars" - like the Mondeo/Fusion and Focus. It's a car designed to work in all markets with only minor changes for individual markets.

It will be interesting to see how they manage to maintain some form of traditional Mustang heritage while making it attractive to all.

Could be a big win or a big lose for Ford imo.

Because hire companies always have the best model available

Mustang is supposed to be a muscle car... the version being offered to the UK... is NOT a muscle car.

They do actually, most people don't want the expense because they just want a good looking coupe with a decent amount of power. That's what we are getting. You're just getting hung up on tuner specials.

Actually, it's that and the fact that these cars have to be remarketed once they are 1-3 years old. If the V6 didnt sell well as a nearly-new or used car, it wouldnt end up on rental fleets.

I don't want to sound like a crying shame purist here, because I don't necessarily have any issue with a V6 mustang, BUT...

Surely the only reason to put up with an otherwise pretty rubbish car (in standard, dealer form), was the V8 ?

If it ends up with a V6, I can't see it being too popular here either - as by far the most common question I had when rolling a V6 (only a 2.0) was "OMG A VEEEEEE-SIX , THAT MUST DRINK PETROL!".

This is the obvious issue Ford have had to contend with, do they release a lardy V8 that won't sell due to crap handling and a thirsty engine, or do they offer an alternative that will please the market in terms of engine etc. or just not bother at all and leave things as they always have been, no UK Mustang.

You must understand that in the UK, people love a "sports car" with an eco engine.

e.g. Audi TT, scirocco with 2.0TDI's

Exactly. UK/EU markets are focussed on economy etc. not on all out power. Hey, at lease there isn't an i4 diesel going in the Mustang...

You realise that a Mustang is, by definition not actually a Muscle car, right? It is a Pony Car.

Morons ;)

I'm sure it'll sell by the bucket load with an I4 turbo... that doesn't make it any good & is certainly not a muscle car... we're not getting the "real" mustang.

No, they aren't. The only differences are bolt-on, with the exception of the roof skin and rear quarters. There is nothing magical about it, sorry to shatter your illusion.

They've been different since the E30

I'm not familiar enough with the E92, but it would be unusual for them to swap from the way they've done the E30/E36/E46 and take a step backwards to bolt-on mods.

I'm half thinking the UK Mustang will be FWD :(

Don't mind it being a V6, would be nice to have a V8 model. A |4 can **** right off though. That is not suited to the car.

You realise that the V6 that is going into them now and will be in the 2015 model are vastly better than the V8 of a few years ago? Better economy, better power, better emissions etc. It'll lack the V8 burble that that is actually a minor point all things considered.

The old V6 matched up to a slushbox auto were bad, modern ones are not.

Not forgetting it'll be a comical 300bhp RWD coupe, what's not to love? The only issue I see is they might try and charge a massive premium which will make the car much less desirable as it isn't a premium car.

The current V8 has 650 BHP does it not?

Ford has finally bowed to demands from UK enthusiasts and will engineer a right-hand-drive version of the next-generation Ford Mustang pony car. The announcement comes as Ford reveals an expanded line-up, including the Ford Ecosport and Ford Edge.

The key word is enthusiasts. Enthusiasts will not really want a v6 in a mustang.

Because now crap engines belong in muscle cars?

The Mustang is a Pony Car not a Muscle Car.

370BHP -> 660BHP... I fail to understand how that's even marginally comparable :p

Y U SO DUM?!

I mean seriously, the stock V8 engine is 400hp, the stock V6 engine is 300hp. Stop quoting the modified engine figure! That figure relates to a car that costs an extra ~$28k and has a huge amount of work done to the engine and the car itself.

I don't know why I need to keep repeating myself - no enthusiast would ever buy a Mustang with a crappy V6 when there *should* be much better offerings available, like there are in the US.

You enjoy your underpowered pony car....
