Are Dyson's still the best vacuum cleaners?

Personally I prefer my Henry... However, the advantage a Dyson has is the bagless side of things. However, I find the Henry so much easier and less bulky to use around the flat, and easier to use the attachments a I personally find the suction better.

Dysons are good, not denying that, but personal preference points me to a Henry.
 
Has no one heard of Kirby? Far too expensive but also far better than Henry or Dyson. It vibrates the floor as welll as sucks/brushes. The Rolls Royce of vacum cleaners.


My Mum's got one, it's been going for 15+ years and is still amazing.

Has no one ever seen the demo where a guy comes, throws a bag of flour on your carpet... goes over it with a dyson - it looks like its sucked it all up, then goes over it with a Henry... it looks even better but opening the deposit compartment there's more flour in there... then he goes over it with the kirby and opens the bag after an its amazing how much flour the others don't suck up but the kirby does.


Anyway.... enough. That's too much talk on the subject for me.

Having just done a lot of DIY involving ripping out fireplaces, I can confirm that a Miele also copes particularly well with anything you can throw at it, including rubble! Oh and it's pretty good at hoovering it up too.
 
When I did some Property maintenance with a mate we got to use loads of different hoovers & a lot of them were Dysons & I personally don't rate them. Ok when they are completely empty but as soon as you pick up any guff they lose there suction to much. In my opinion you can't beat a Henry.

There's a Numatic George which also looks pretty awesome... has carpet shampooing as well as wet and dry suction. Overkill, but... :D
 
We have a Dyson DC14 animal upright and it's easily the best hoover i have ever had. It's around 5 years or so old now. Earlier this year the motor blew and after considering other hoovers as a replacement and seeing the prices for a decent one the tight git side of me kicked in and got a brand new motor on the bay for £26 delivered. Dyson is working perfectly again. :D
 
Awesome, came into this thread looking for some advice on hoovers (because if I don't get one I will never hear the end of it from my dear mother). After reading it all I still have no bloody clue what to get!

My apartment has carpet in the bedrooms and hallway and wooden floor in the kitchen/living room area. I am tempted by the Henry but I'm not sure about the wholed 'bagged' thing over a Dyson.
 
I have a DC01 I use for the cars it must be nearly 20 years old and still going strong. I use a DC07 Animal in the house and it does a great job.
 
I know people on here rave about the Miele, but I never really rated them for pet hair compared to the Dyson (used to sell both).

We've got one of these and an upright Dyson - not sure of the model, it's the grey/lime green one ... DC04 possibly?

If I'm hoovering I tend to grab the Dyson, although I think ours is due a bit of an overhaul, as it doesn't seem to pick up very well these days - I remember the day we got it from Comet and were amazed at the amount of dust and cat hair it dragged out of the carpet.

'er indoors informs me that the George is her weapon of choice - it picks up way better than the Dyson currently does and has the advantage of being able to shampoo the carpet as well, which was invaluable the other day when one of the cats decided to have an attack of the 'trots' on the upstairs landing :D
 
We have a Henry for general cleaning but also a handheld Dyson. Apart from the fact that the battery lasts about 5 minutes it's a damn godsend. Expensive though.
 
Used to have Dysons but got bored with them breaking down. Then went for a bog standard Miele that was marginally better at picking up dog hair. Then purchased a turbobrush attachment for the Miele (which comes as standard with the Dog and Cat one) and the difference is amazing both in terms of the amount it picks up and the effortlessness with which it can be used.
 
had a Dyson for a few years. They have really good suction for a few uses then the foam filter gets clogged and you have to wash it. Its the pay off for having a bagless system. Other than that and the fact it only laster 3 years it was pretty good, if a bit big and cumbersome.


Replaced it with a Mielle after the motor blew. The Mielle got recommended by like 90% of people in a thread on here a while back so thought I'd get one. Mines a 'clean care' 300 for about £170 from Argos.

They are good but what people failed to mention was the bags cost an absolute fortune and are tiny :mad:. Luckily I managed to find some 3rd party bags on ebay, but even they are pretty expensive. You'd save a lot with a Dyson in bag cost over a Mielle, even if you have to buy a new vacuum along the way.
 
Miele Cat and Dog user here

amazing vacuum and even though you have to pay for bags its much better than any bagless vacuum we have had in the past (including Dysons)

Yeah they are terrible if used with any sort of really fine dust, like the kind created by building work. The foam filter is really good at filtering out very fine dust with it being a hepa filter, but this means it clogs in seconds if sucking up a lot of fine dust.

For building work you're better off getting a shop vac or something. They can pick up all sorts and if the filter starts to get clogged you can open the top and quickly brush the dust off the filter into the container and then you're good to go.
