Just got the card and I couldn't resist firing it up even though I should be working, which I'll get back to in a minute. :p

Thread reserved for Benches. But here is an initial bench at stock clocks 950/1250 @0.975V. 2560X1440p. The thing is damn quiet.

Compared to my 7850 overclocked 1200/1450 @1.17V

My resolution is much higher than yours that's why. 1080p gaming is so last year. :p

Plus you have no X4AA, so your benches are invalid. :)
lol but us average Joes are still gaming on 1920 res :D

But to be honest though...if I was to upgrade...I wonder if it would be better to go higher res, or just stick with 1920 but go 120Hz monitors. The idea of even smoother gaming sounds more tempting than higher res...and with the option of trying out 3D as well :p

Cough, cough 3D cough cough.

I tried 3D and didn't really get on with it, I found game support for it was pretty poor

I am now on 1440p and loving it... if at all possible I would advise trying one or both before deciding

Yea I know...hardly worth it unless got a deep enough pocket for spending a lot on graphic card and the 3D glasses etc, but 120Hz is still tempting.

For the Nvidia route, it isn't cheap but AMD passive is still a good option and not that expensive for a semi decent monitor.

I don't make you wrong, my trouble is I love it and keep banging on about how good it is. Some people will not get on with it full stop and to the point of 3D making them feel sick.

No, I know, just pointing out both sides of the coin. It didn't make me feel sick, I just wasn't wowed by it and/or it refused to work right in the games I play... massive ghosting and split image instead of a 3D effect, and the couple of games I could get it to work on I found my aim was so off that it made actually playing the game nigh on impossible (e.g. my kill rate in BF3 went from 2:1 to 1:3), I just gave up on it. Great for movies, but then again once you've watched the 3 good movies that there are in 3D that also becomes a bit pointless. Sold my 3D monitor and even my 3D TV now sits in my kids room with nothing hooked up to it. Even just using it as a 120hz monitor I didn't really see the benefit of.

Hence why I would advise try before you buy if at all possible - I wasted about £150 discovering that I don't like 3D, or that I don't like the content currently available for 3D.

Now a 4Kx2K or 3 x 1440p setup, that's the kind of idea I could get behind. :D

Majnu, have you attempted voltage adjustment on this yet? Trixx, Afterburner etc.

Yes and it looks like it is locked. :(

I've saved the bios profiles locally and uploaded them to techpowerup. What's odd is in Trixx's website the 7950 cards are all listed as being capable of over volting. Maybe the Vapor X is not included in the list, but I haven't had time to check and compare my model/seriel against that list.

I tried Asus Tweek and that didn't show the voltages when I clicked on "Voltage Range Enchancement" and Applied. :(

When I tried overclocking on stock volts the frame rates in Unigene became worse and playback was stuttery. I'm using the latest AMD drivers 12.8 on Windows 8 so I'll try it in Windows 7 later in the evening after I've installed it.

If that doesn't improve anything then I'll hunt down and try and figure out how to flash dual bios cards, just so I can unlock the volatge. If that fails then I'll flash back to the original Vapor X bios and DSR it. :(

Sapphire have messed up locking this card.

Majnu,

Thanks for looking into it and the effort you put in. I know you was on a mini quest the other day over several other forums looking for other Vapor-X users to confirm it one way or another before you purchased it. Hopefully a way can be found to unlock it as the low temps and low noise gives it a small edge over other 7950 cards.

Have you tried using the second bios setting. Some people are reporting that when switching to the normal 850mhz bios setting the card will let you use voltage control. Sapphire engineers have stated that the vapour-x is not voltage locked.

Have they....Where?

When I tried overclocking the boost bios and normal bios clocks even when I reset in Trixx it retained the new speeds. It may be a Windoes 8 issue.

Got this card too and didnt have any trouble adjusting the voltage. Scroll down in trixx and its there at the botom (under the li thing)

Flashed mine with a sapphire 7970 bios which upped the default voltage and clocks. Overclocks seemed a lot more stable too. As far as I know you can use the bios switch on the card to change back to the other bios if one isnt working. I'm no expert though so don't quote me on that :D
