Looking to Move, Exeter or Plymouth?

Yeah Union Street has a bad rep for no real reason tbh. I live a few minutes walk away from Union Street and never had any bother. Only people who complain about it are the 'posher' people, but they're also the type that are afraid to go out after dark by themselves so...

Go for an outlining town if your driving. Congestion in and around Exeter at rush hour is not fun! iirc it was classed as one of the most congested citys in the UK a few years back.

I use to have a few friends from Barnstaple, they were a bit strange to say the least :p but nowt compared to the Exmouth locals.....

It was way worse 10 years ago :p
They've cleaned up a lot of stuff since then, knocked the odd bit down and refurbed some other places. (I know the old theatre place down about halfway down has closed again, but 10 years ago it was a wreck full of druggies)

As always, it really depends on the area. The *really* nasty towerblocks down Dockyard way got knocked down, but the whole area round there is rough.
Some other places are decent, but it's a mixed bunch.

Get out while you still can :p

Dance Academy was ace ;) In for 11pm out for 6-8 in the morning. Sunday boat parties...awesome.

Been in Plym since 98. Plus, I'm well known around these parts. I got nothing to worry about :D

They're knocking down most the council stuff now. It's all got concrete cancer.

Back in the '70s Union Street was rough as you got. The Police used to cordon it off on Friday nights (the nights the French sailors got into port) and it was effectively left as no man's land and going down there you took your life in your own hands.

People who remember it make sure that the bad name continues :p

The 70s are dead :p I like to educate the people that still spread crap like "you'll get stabbed blah blah" it's all nonsense. Fights happen, but fights happen on any 'club strip' in any city of the world. So many police down there now it's actually one of the safest places to be on a night out. Literally every couple meters there is a few coppers walking up and down their stretch.

Get the odd gym monkey who thinks he's a tough guy (you know the type..only does bicep curls and bench work - silly tight t-shirt etc) but they soon get put in their place.

I really miss Dance Academy. Nowhere else does it quite the same ;-)

He wants to reopen it, but I don't see it happening. He's a sound bloke, but media portrays him as some kind of beast lol. He use to hang out in the VIP lounge quite often. Awesome place the lounge, all the DJ's, the dancers...oh yes :D

To be fair, it varies each time I've been, sometimes good sometimes pants. But then most chippies are like that around Barnstaple.

I haven't been there for a good 6 months or so though as its not my nearest.

Sad that it has come to that, I have a fair idea why you may have had naff experiences there...!

Yea I've been following it in the herald. It must be a wreck inside now. Apparently Legends of the Dark black are meant to be starting their night again at the Voodoo lounge but it won't be the same :(

(I don't eat fish either, so usually have battered sausage so this maybe effecting my tastes!).

Unfortunately the best Fish & Chips I've ever had is in London, as much as people down in the SW like to blow their F&C is amazing here horn!

Reminds me where I'm going as soon as I'm back to Uni :D

Silver Cod and the other place they had on Alphington Road in Exeter scooped up a load of awards a few years back, just sad to hear that it isn't as good as it used to be! :(

You live in Cornwall near the north Cornish coast and you are bored and want to move to Devon to either Exeter or Plymouth.

Be gone with you, another **** take thread.
