Zatar Wetlands was one of the biggest BF2 maps and that just had grass inbetween the flags. Songhua Stalemate had a massive lake ! so no change there then :p

Anyone give a pros and cons mini review of Armoured Kill so I (and others) can decide whether it's worth getting? I only play occasionaly so I could live on just the vanilla and karkand maps if AK servers are just going to become empty in a month's time.

You only get armoured kill if (assuming you play conquest):

- you love to use aircraft and tanks
- be a sniper camping in the bushes trying to get 300m headshots :p
- JAV whore
- love to get raped by vehicles
- play with a few people on TS/mumble (I'm sure the maps would be more fun with like 5 people on TS)
- work in a team

Although rush mode looks good, more infantry gameplay with vehicles obviously :p, however, the AC130 ruins it completely, in other words defenders get steam rolled and half the team ends up rage quitting.

If you are someone who likes to have some infantry gun fire and on the odd occasion be a lonewolf player (by the looks of it, you can't do this on AK at all, otherwise you just get your xxx handed to you), then I would avoid and wait for aftermath, which should be more infantry play but with vehicles as well, pretty much like bazaar, seine, however, I am hoping for a few more maps like caspian with regards to all vehicles but at the same time you don't get owned by them, but doubt it :(

EDIT: BTW this isn't from my own experience, just going by loads of youtube videos, forum posts etc.

I agree with DG on that point as well, in a few weeks time prepare to see servers switching back to the vanilla maps again.

Speaking of hit reg issues, I seem to be having a few problems myself in the last few days, could have sworn that I hit helis with a tank shell and absolutely nothing happened, just flies on like it never happened

I'm really liking armoured kill so far.

The ac130 isn't really that OP, other than in rush mode where it seems to spawn right after it's killed (is this a server variable?)

OK - So I've finally bought Battlefield 3 (got the new premium version) after putting it off until now as I've been far too busy this summer, can anyone help me get started or point me towards a good guide for a n00b? I played a fair bit of Battlefield 2 but I wasn't exactly great!

Enter "player" in the server browser filter and join one player start servers to practice flying and learning maps.

Youtube is best for tutorials, there are so many combinations of guns, classes and attachments, spend 30 minutes (or 30 days) viewing videos.

Hey guys did this issue ever get a fix?

I have crossfire 6950s and i5 2500k! My fps is a constant 60 until i use a sniper scope x12 for example and it drops quite a bit!

Not really bothered me till now but want to try sniping more now we have big maps!

Cheers, all settings maxed etc

Pros:
-Vehicles, lots and lots of them
- big big maps means no choke points, so more dynamic, albeit less frantic, gameplay (on CQ). No camping choke points as a result
- Mobile artillery and tank destroyers change up vehicle gameplay
- AC130 is fun to rape from
- pretty maps
-Mountain map is really broken up so makes for very interesting gameplay
- No repetitive gameplay patterns emerging so far (I'm talking to you Metro!)

Cons:
- If you like close up hectic gunfights, you'll be bored of the vehicle play
- you'll want to get good with tanks if you want to survive for more than a few minutes.
- maps are huge, so it can take a while to get places without a vehicle, which is a PITA. Thankfully not usually a problem as all flags have vehicles at them. Can be a bit confusing at first.
-AC130 is very easy to kill, so you don't always get a good run.
- if you play by yourself it wouldn't be as fun (solution, jump on TS with the 247 crowd and play as a team)

I had this argument with Raven many times.

The most popular maps on Battlefield 2 were Back to Karkand, Sharqi Peninsula, Mashtuur City, Gulf of Oman, Kubra Damn and Dalian Plant

Yes of course the other bigger maps like Wetlands, Oilfields and Songhua were played, but they weren't nearly as popular do to their huge size.

Probably because the increased ranges means all the people who thought they were awesome l337 snip0rz are actually realising how crap they are now while firing at targets more than 200 metres away :D

I played for about half an hour last night and got bored if I'm honest. Alborz Mountain was pretty good, but the desert map, not so much. However I wasn't really putting the effort in, just having a quick dabble and running around more to have a look at the map. Might try again tonight and put the effort into actually playing.

I found last night that just as a single sniper I could really mess around with the 3 close flags on Bandar. Just by keeping those flags under pressure from one guy kept at least 4-5 of their guys busy. As infantry your job IS NOT to be running miles all over the place, it is to hold an area.

They are the only maps which feel like the bigger BF2 maps. They seem to have succeeded where B2K somehow failed.

The new maps are definitely more fun with a decent and mixed squad.

Cons:

These maps are massive. That is true but if you adapt your play style to think about areas rather than "the map" you will do quite well..Like chess, every piece has a purpose. Sometimes the purpose doesn't become apparant straight away.

Having said that, I really don't think I'd enjoy BF3 anywhere near as much without our TS voice comms. I don't mean just the wicked squad play. I mean all the banter / rage / hilarious / useful tips that makes playing as part of a community great. We have such a wide range of guys on there is always something to keep you coming back....

That and MAV / C4 / EOD SQD on TS is hilarious...Nothing like seeing 6 MAV's + 2 EOD bot's steaming towards you on Seine....Sheer panic :D

Oh I couldn't agree more. Bandar is quite clearly set up to have those three close flags as infantry based, and the others are full of tasty ambush spots where a few javelins can easily take out passing SPRUTs and the like. I think we're only really scratching the surface on how these maps can be played, especially since most of us are still legging it around trying out new things and exploring. Once it settles down and people start playing to objectives with a bit more organisation and experience we should see some fantastic games. It's very hard to bullet-point the pros and cons so I was making some sweeping generalisations. Either way, these are my favourite maps so far and I think I'll be spending hours on them.

One thing I will say though, is that 64 players is where it's at for these maps. It just feels like it was designed for that. I'd like to see a 98/128 player server for the lols (swarming up the mountain against an array of lmgs and artillery fire!), but 64 feels right.

Cheers! I'll have a fly around and try and get the hang of it, found some excellent resources online, I think I'll come to a point where I'll just dive in and make a fool of myself :)
