i d/l on origin at about 150kb/s so quit 'yer moanin.....:D

the last 3gig patch took me 6 1/2 hrs

Yes, you can copy the files from your bf3 install and transfer them to the origin games folder on his machine. I have two accounts on two pc's and have done this, i keep a copy of the files on an external hdd as well for backup.

It's odd because the last thing I downloaded using origin was Crisis 2 which came down at a theoretically impossible (for my connection) 12mb/sec and was done in minutes.

I am going to save a copy to my server too for safe keeping.

I've downloaded this today because I have literally nothing else to play till the S.T.A.L.K.E.R mods come out and I was bored as hell. My God, this game hasn't improved at all and if anything it's got worse.

  • Origin is still an abortion and a pain to use. It keeps asking me to download the 'update' plug-in even though I have it already. It feels the need to open 3 windows just to launch BF3.
  • Randomly shuts down in the middle of games and goes straight to desktop without any explanation or any sort of logs to tell me why it shut down.
  • Absolutely full of campers. Every game mode is full with them, it literally looks like the rejects from COD have come to play this game so they can prone a 3 hour match and go 3-0 at the end of it.
  • Russians. Russians everywhere. Literally half the squads had some sort of 'rus/RU' (like they're actually proud to be Russian) in them spamming chat with sideways/upside down letters. They also don't seem to know how to use the server filter properly be region because mine is set to U.K, Germany and France only and they're full of Ruskies.

What a waste of 17Gb.

I am not looking to wind you up, but I'd say that you failed rather than the game in this instance. CQ247, SAS, Xtra gamers....Go on these and you will not go wrong.

Also right clicking on BF3 in Origin and clicking repair install normally sorts out any issues.
 
What's the best way of getting this game now? Surprised it wasnt on steam...

Is it a good idea to get the base game and "code in a box" for the xpacs...?

Played through the campaign, can anyone recommend some good (noob friendly) servers? not really played any online FPS since Counter strike :D
 
I've just finished the Maverick assignment and its the last time I'm flying.

I have a turning circle of France, others are flying in a space saucer machine.
 
had a go on the oddest server last night

was metro 64 player conquest (with 3 flags) no explosives

it was just 32 v 32 with machine guns spraying up or down the stairs at nothing hoping to kill someone with luck - for 30 mins a round!

also not liking AK much - its only good if you have a big squad on TS, otherwise its just an exercise in getting constantly killed by gunships helis jets and tanks, I cba to play on TS every time I want a random half hour game so find I just get pwned continually

Sometimes it's hilarious. It's like watching Predator without the jungle. So loud and the screen is flickering yellow nonstop. With occasional smoke/explosions/debris here and there.

well yes that is true - this was worse than normal - at least with smoke / grenades etc you can force your way through, with none of those its just 64 people facing each other going "gakgakgakgak" for half an hour :p

shame really metro would be a decent map if there was a few more routes around
 
Does AK go on general sale for pc today ? just checked origin and nothing yet, guess it will be ready at a certain time ?
 
Funny, but I love 64 player TDM on Noshahr Canals, Grand bazzar and inside Metro for some weird reason.

It's a series of bottlenecked cluster f's but it's so good. I don't even get why I like it. Intensity perhaps.

On another note, all the reported install issues baffle me.
I've installed the game twice now (2nd time due to an SSD switchover) and it's taken an hour and a half on both occasions. 30mins to install from disc and about an hour to d/l the rest.

Metro is a genius map, with a decent team that rushes all three sets of stairs at once you can blitz your way up or down the map no problem.

I had a great game on Monday I think it was, joined the US side that had been pinned back at its base, we punched through the bottle kneck corridor in the middle when me and this other fella just kept charging at them with shotguns.

We all then swept up the map, had a bit of too and fro up the stairs around b, captured that and a in quick succession and having been 300 tickets down won the game with something like 25 tickets left or something stupid.
 
Would really love the BF franchise, with the new graphics to go back to WW2.

Would be so epic.

The short campaing level in BFBC2 at the start of the game was great!

Could you imagine dog fighting in spifires vs messerschmitt!

Panzer & Tiger tanks vs Sherman and what ever else the allies had.

Calling in B52's old school cammo, weapons etc....

With the Frost Bite 2 engine, would be so awsome.

Agree'd 100% ! i would love to see an updated BF1942,i think it will happen but just not for a couple of years yet,game genre's tend to come around like fashions,the fashion for games atm is current conflicts and slightly dated in the future, the WW2 fashion will soon come around again :)
 
The hit reg seems to be a bit of problem in AK dlc aswell.

Last night on Alborz mountain, I fired 2 rpgs at enemy transport heli, and instead of hitting it, they went straight through it lol
