Dissapointed with the iPhone 5

Remember the S3 display is Pentile rather than RGB - the high pixel density figure sounds better than it actually is.

The oversaturation is less of an issue now, they've nearly got that under control, but I'll be honest, the display is quite a bit worse than that of the iPhone 4/4S in my opinion.

Its just not different enough to warrant a new one.

I have the iphone 4, original, its running ios6 no problems, does everything i need very well......

For me I have now hit the wall where apple made them so good, there is no point in getting the latest one, doesn't really offer anything.

I went from a 3GS > 4S. I was shocked at the speed of the 4 compared to the 4S. The 5 does everything instantly. Even basic setting stall for a second on the 4.

Personally I couldn't be doing with this, but if phones do everything what a person wants then that's all that matters. Saying that, if that was the case then we would still be stuck in the 80s.

Long live upgraded technology

Had my 5 for an entire week now, and loving it. One week of normal use and the back doesnt have a any scratches.. I'm not so stupid to take to it with a set of keys, but for normal use, i reckon it'll be fine.. I'm anal so i bought a bumper, to keep the actual backside off the ground by 1mm when its sitting on a desk..

Came from a 4S and given i'm in the states, really enjoying the 4G LTE speeds. Phone is a big upgrade for me. The 4 / 4S seems so heavy and bulky in comparison.

I see your point about the adapter(s) that are needed but 8 pin connector is around to stay. Over the next few years im sure millions of 8 pin accessories will be released (along with cheap adapters)

Maps is being updated so it will work

If you go into an Apple shop and ask to open it and check for dints - say you have heard about manufacturer defects and would like to check it in store

I guess the point is that I have the opportunity now to throw the chips in the air as see where they land because I have lost the "tie-in" I had with apple previously now they've changed the dock.

If I do come back to apple I'm happy with the longevity of the port but it's the best opportunity to reevaluate.

As for maps in 6 months it still wont be as good as gmaps and I'd bet £100 on that, but need it too much to spend £700. Yes I could use the web but I could use e web on any phone so again a good time to try all comers.

I love people who assume anyone who doesn't want an iPhone simply can't afford one.

I can afford an iPhone 5 without even thinking about it - I just don't want one. I don't dispute the many improvements over the 4S, no matter how "minor", just none of them really appeal to me.

With regards to the major differences, I don't need a bigger screen nor do I want a bigger phone. I don't like the all-black design and prefer the design of the 4/4S. I like the weight of my 4S and think the 5 feels too light. I prefer the glass back of my 4S and think the anodised aluminium of the iPhone 5's feels worse in the hand and marks more easily. Finally, whilst I appreciate the reasons for changing the connector, it's pure hassle right now when all my other Apple devices use the older connector and I'd have to buy new cables and accessories, none of which are available yet.

If I wanted one, I'd buy one, but I don't so I won't. Usually when a new model of an Apple device I own is released, I hanker after it and want it as soon as possible, but with the 5 I feel no urge nor desire to own one whatsoever.

Couldn't agree more. The jibes about not being able to afford one are laughable. Says more about the posters than anything.

The S3 isn't bad but there are a immediate few quirks. The screen is pretty much dire vs my i4. It lacks that retina sharpness, but has a good colour saturation to it. After using a retina screen for so long it is quite a shock to the system to adjust to another screen and I admit I am struggling with the S3 screen.

Sorry I just don't get this, I also have a Retina iPad and came from a iPhone 4 to a SG3 and to me the SG3's screen looks great, I couldn't go back to the current iPhones simply because I've been spoiled by the large and beautiful screen of the SG3 and please don't tell me that the 0.5" height as made any real difference because I've used one and it doesn't, it's still to darn small! ;)

I'm still on the fence when it comes to upgrading from my 4. There just isn't anything about the 5 that makes me really want it, as there was when I moved to the 4 from the 3G.

Now that may be because they have reached a point where there aren't really any more revolutionary features to add so it'll just be steady upgrades and improvements with the occasional new feature.

The maps problems don't bother me too much as I never used the Google maps in previous iOS versions anyway (use Tom Tom for Sat Nav), and I dare say it will get better over time, but I do understand the annoyance from those who used maps all the time. The comments of the build quality and/or toughness being somewhat less than previously is a concern though.

I've invested too much into Apple hardware and iTunes media to consider an Android or Windows phone (ignoring the fact that I much prefer iOS anyway), unless something really goes wrong in the Apple camp, so my next phone will be an iPhone. I just don't know if it'll be the 5.

I think I'll hang on a while longer and see what the verdict is from those who have upgraded already. Besides it's not exactly easy to get one at the moment anyway with demand being what it is.

I am skipping this one. I don't "chase" the latest Apple products, I went from iPhone 1 to iPhone 4, skipping 3G and 3GS in the process and I think I will do the same purely because I do not see how this new phone can benefit me. More than the iPhone 4 can serve me.
