The One X + is different to the One XL.
The XL is as far as I know a standard One x with LTE.
I went into a T-mobile shop and they said they have them in stock but aren't allowed
To sell them. I showed them the press release. Try tomorrow they said.

I don't think this will have much of an impact on an air interface for the first few years
LTE is... fairly heavy on battery - it's usable I guess is what I'm saying. I don't know if it's more economical though. Economics of battery usage versus interface is basically asking the question "is it better to transfer 1MB of data through a slower interface at a lesser power or at a higher speed with more power?" When 3G first came out it was more economical to use 2G but over time it moved the other way. The major gain over time that happened to 3G was the chips started using ultra low voltage modes, the first 3G chipsets worked 24/7 constantly and would NAIL the battery because of this. This is because 3G is "always listening" to traffic, but i digress.The usual applies, there's always a tradeoff etc... LTE is a fairly good middle ground in terms of power usage but it's no saint and will improve over time.
Really important thing you should always remember though - your phone will only use the interface that is correct at the time. E.G. your phone currently only uses HSPA+ if you request something fairly beefy like a webpage, otherwise it sinks back to more a battery friendly way of working. LTE will be no exception to this so in a way you're probably going to be fine with the first UK LTE handsets (which are really gen 2).
I'm really keen to see what sort of speeds they get out of it in the real world though, putting a tower in a room and asking people what the speed is on the other side of it isn't exactly real life no matter how much EE want us to believe

Cellan-Jones did this on the BBC News site.
He got 36MB down and 13MB up versus 3.5MB down and 0.31MB up. He did add the caveat in that the cell site was just up the road and he was probably the only one using it hence he was getting full whack.
As you say, I wonder what the speeds will be like as more people start using it.

I wouldn't have thought they would restrict the phone for F&F. It's available on all the same deals at the exact same prices as the 9300

I haven't heard anything since the meeting for them so if they buy at the auction spring time, which I imagine they will. If they wait for EE to sell them some then could be as late as September.

The lady - which was actually helpful and friendly this time (ooh-err, went through to the option to leave t-mob
) said the S3-Lte was literally rushed out without being told specifics for F&F customers - she said it will most likely be fine she just needs it said officially. New F&F rules are that it must be I think contracts over £31 and we can't have the Full Monty tariff.
Also it's ok to take the LTE s3 out on a 3G contract, which is fine for me as I just want the 2GB Ram and Grey colour.
She'll also phone me back when she's find's out its ok for F&F.
I'll never give up F&F for 4G...pah!
Although once EE tarifs are finally out we may not be able to get LTE phones from them without a lte-4g contract.
