*** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note II Thread ***

Arrived this morning, truly stonking piece of kit. It really is the most impressive bit of technology I've bought in ages. Going to have a good play with it today plus see how it holds on up on my fellow friend the train journey. Impressed with the packaged headphones too! Quite a surprise.

The LTE version (7105?) doesn't support the 900Mhz band does it? Will this mean that for some providers later on it won't always support 4G in the UK?

I ask because I'm considering getting one, Vodafone have a nice 12 month deal but that's going to be the non-LTE version (not that I care especially about 4G but it makes more sense to get it than not I guess).

It seems like the Note2 LTE will support 800Mhz, 1800Mhz and 2600Mhz bands (link). These are the bands which are being auctioned off in the UK next year, so in principle it should support all three.

None of us have LTE phones yet though, so we can't say for sure. T-mobile said the 11th (and told me at least that they have stock), but there has been no word of any phones shipping out. I hope they are sent out on Monday (15th), but to be honest I doubt it.

Selecting "sync with existing contacts" when installing facebook if it did'nt try uninstalling and doing it again. Use the Play Store for your apps, you can browse the store via your PC and send the apps you want too your phone, or browse via your phone the choice is yours.

Thanks for that :) Yeah thats the exact option I chose with regards to facebook and it kept bringing everyone across. Ill try uninstalling it.

The deal I got has turned out slightly better then I anticipated. Apparently my 1.5GB internet allowance is only for downloading files, I actually get 'unlimited' web browsing? Can anyone with T-Mobile confirm this?

Great excuse for a holiday IMO, travel to countries that support those LTE bands and see if it works :p

Vegas? :D

Yes that is true.

Yes that is true.

Thanks, that's handy. Do they classify browsing youtube as downloading or browsing the web? :p I'm just wondering how do they distinguish between browsing and downloading, what if I loaded up a web page with 10MB of images for example?

^^^ The way I see it, video and music streaming is seen as downloading. Images on websites classed as browsing.

I've gone over my limits by a few hundred MB's many times with T-Mobile and they've never contacted or charged me.

As I understand it:

Up to your limit (1.5Gb in your case), you can do "anything" on the phone. Once you go beyond this limit, then two things happen:

a) Your bandwidth is restricted.
b) Downloading and other high-bandwidth functions (such as watching videos) are disabled.

So, in some sense - yes, you get "unlimited" web browsing. Once you go above your limit you can still browse the web, but more slowly, and without access to certain features. But, during your initial 1.5Gb there is no distinction made on the type of data. So, if you browse a thread with 100 2Mb gifs, that will still contribute 200Mb towards your limit, despite being accessed through a web browser.

I can definitely say speed does not decrease when limit is reached and I can still stream YT after limit is reached.

It's just a soft limit so people don't abuse their allowance.

I was in the queue for AGES to tmobile before. I needed to give them my PAC code so my old number gets carried over. The first lady I spoke too was utterly clueless and said its not possible, then she said her system is being upgraded so she can't access anything and she'll have to put me through to someone else. I was waiting for almost half an hour before I gave up. She was a complete waste of space. I rang them again and got through quicker and the guy I spoke to the second time was very helpful and managed to sort it out no problem. He's the one who confirmed that I have unlimited web browsing but 1.5Gb download limit, which I wasn't aware off.

Meanwhile, mobiles.co.uk were suppose to pick up the extra handset they sent me on Thursday between 9am-6pm. No sign of them, the phones still here. I think they want me to have it? :p

I gave up after another 40mins..now I have chosen an option that I want to leave them..will see if it helps...

all of this is a joke

after almost 3 hours I managed to get hold to someone..

he is trying to convince me there are no price plans for note 2 LTE...and he is saying that I can get note2 for price as a new customer... laugh to the phone and asking for PAC code...they are taking a micky here...

EDIT:
oh, and he tried to offer me £41 price plan and pay for mobile ...to a customer that has been with them for over 6 years...

EDIT2 ...music is back..I wonder how long I will have to wait now to get PAC...

^^^ Ridiculous.

I'm somewhat regretting going with them myself. Such poor customer service really shouldn't be rewarded... Still they know that they will be the only network with LTE for a while, and they're milking it for all it's worth.

I have another line with them that expires in a few months - I'll make it a point to migrate it to O2 or Vodafone. Once this new contract is over I'll do the same with my line as well.

already another 30mins waiting to talk to someone about leaving...

I have extra line with o2..o2 has better reception at work and I have new giff gaff card for that reason as well...if not new contract, then sim free mobile and giff gaff...

am i wrong for not seeing a big deal with 4g? i mean network side it lets them have more users per cell tower or something right? more bandwidth available?

but for a user, it uses more power and offers slightly (real world) faster speeds which when streaming youtube, music, browsing etc makes no difference. downloading would see a diff but we have caps in place to negate that.
