Nurishment

Except thats completely not what I said at all now is it?

'Quality of eggs is more consistent than the quality of protein shakes'

=/=

'Egg protein is more consistent than whey protein'. Get the chip off your shoulder and stop reading only what you want to believe I've written.

If youre not body building then a healthy balanced diet is always better for you than relying on heath supplements. Simple as that.

Protein shakes are Whey protein, whey is the main ingredient and in most cases bar some flavouring the Only ingredient.

I have no chip on my shoulder.

Also you honestly think that body building is the only sport that benefits from supplementation of Whey in your diet? You really should look up the multiple uses in many sports, no to mention other uses. It's also easily part of a healthy balanced diet as it is 100% healthy.

This isn't your typical protein shake at all though, not in any shape or form! If you're just talking about this drink then that's fine,

No its not, its meant to be a meal substitute according to the OP, and I am arguing how unhealthy it is as a meal substitute instead of buying an egg sandwich.

You get it yet or not?

So:

a) If you're a bodybuilder, you don't have to have a healthy balanced diet.

b) Protein shakes aren't relevant to ANYONE else? What about the various type of strength athlete? Or anyone else with diet limitations who want to add muscle...?

a) You add protein shakes on top of a healthy diet. But from what I've personally seen with people I know who body build, they substitute ALL forms of dietary protein for whey protein, so they dont seem to be eating a healthy balanced diet as well.

b) Wait, isnt a strength athlete basically just a body builder focusing on a specific strength based sport? And what diet limitations are relevant to whey protein? Vegetarians can still wat dairy products, vegans cant consume whey protein.

I'm not arguing about the egg sandwich comment, I'm arguing about your "protein shakes in general are rubbish" comment.

They are idiots. Do you view facts of the world based on only the things you observe in your every day life?

Really?:

bhavv, I love your advocation of egg sandwiches over whey shakes. Pure comedy cluelessness gold.

Yes I do. People I see using whey protein shakes (family members / relatives) dont eat much meat, eggs or dairy at all. They need to have the whey shakes to fully provide for their body building because they dont include normal protein foods into their diets.

Yes I do.

Oh wow, do I have to spell everything out to you exactly? I'm not talking about your egg sandwich vs nurishment point, I'm talking about your eggs/sandwiches/whatever vs protein shakes point. Is that simple enough for you or do I have to boil it down even more? Maybe a drawing with stick men or colorful animals might help?

So you don't believe things unless you see them in your day to day life? Reminds me of religion.

:Edit: Ah you did a ninja on me

Yes, that might be the case. Just because you see someone doing something doesn't mean everyone that does that thing does it for the same reasons. I see people get tattoos of "Smell ya mam" on their middle fingers, or "I love big fat ****s" on their ass cheeks, but I don't think everyone who gets a tattoo is a complete nobber. This is because I'm rational and I have the ability to use my brain instead of being a simple "CAUSE AND EFFECT, BLEEP BLOOP" robot.

About people no I dont.

If I have to judge between two people for any reason and I know that one drinks protein shakes and body builds, and the other doesnt, and I know nothing else about them, I would favor the person that doesnt bodybuild + drink protein shakes.

You are an amazing creature. Do you believe that the Australians eat kangaroo?

:Edit: I love the way you're now suddenly bringing in your personal view of those that use protein shakes. How on earth did that happen? Are we having the same conversation here?

Some of them might, but not all of them, and a vegetarian / vegan Australian wouldnt.

Well from my personal observations, people who consume protein shakes seem to be severely lacking in brain cells (just as people who believe in certain supernatural things). This could actually be tested and I could be completely wrong, but thats how I feel about such people. Same goes for heavy drinkers and smokers too.

This could be a result of their dietary intakes.

So you accept the possibility that something happens, even though you have not witnessed it directly. That goes against exactly what you just said in your previous post.

Do you believe people have been in to space?

:edit: So because everyone you know that drinks protein shakes is a douche, you think that anyone new you meet that drinks them must be a douche. Do you not see how that is a really astoundingly dumb way of thinking about things? The sheer simplicity of that "association" thought process makes you sound like a database. Bleepity bloop.

What I said is entirely about judgment of peoples personalities and nothing more than that.

Slightly incorrect, I think that long term and excessive consumption of protein shakes maybe responsible for tuning people into 'douches', as well as alcohol and many other food / drinks / additives. This would also make a fun experiment thinking about it now.

No, not at all.

Bodybuilding =! strength training.

Bodybuilders train to look big, whereas some strength athletes need to remain as small as possible while getting stronger. Most sports have a strength component that can be trained for, but most wouldn't want to be as big as possible.

Hugely common misconception though, often found in young "bodybuilder" douchbags in commercial gyms.
And what diet limitations are relevant to whey protein? Vegetarians can still wat dairy products, vegans cant consume whey protein.
You need to consume a lot of milk to get enough protein, and then you've also consumed a lot of sugar. This doesn't fit everyone's goals.

It's also the cheapest way of getting enough protein.

whereas some strength athletes need to remain as small as possible while getting stronger.

Well this is what I'm talking about, why would these athletes need protein shakes? The main source of muscle strength comes from the tendons, not from the size of the muscles themselves. You can observe this from many skinny martial arts experts like Bruce Lee.

What, the actual ****, are you talking about?

Quick, go and tell all strength athletes to hypertrophy their tendons for all their strength needs!

Its very difficult to find some articles on this, but muscle strength is limited by tendon strength / flexibility. Simply having strong muscles will not make you stronger than someone who has spent a lot more time strengthening their tendons / flexibility.

Lol oh dear. Judging by this thread you are lacking brain cells more than the idiots for whom your statement might be true!

Oh and Sports Arena has a few threads on this subject that has people clearly a lot more clever than you posting in them :)

wait, you are now saying protein, a natural substance in abundance in most foods that are eaten, is likely to turn people into a douche?

Well done, just amazing!

Correction, Sports Arena has people who know more about this specific topic than I do.

I dont think this thread was intended to be a serious discussion on whey protein drinks.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The ADDITIVES in whey protein drinks, not the protein part of the drinks. Also it could be due to the diminished quality of the rest of their diet when protein shakes are being used as dietary replacements instead of supplements. Im not even sure if its likely, but it could happen. You are what you eat.
