Watching it back on the News, I want to serverly beat the fella who just kept repeating the wind was coming from the east, he keeps asking for smoke to see the direction for himself...nah..im just gonna keep saying the same god damn thing to you over and over.

Yeah we're scrapping the bottom of the barrel here but you get the gist of it
According to the conference there was a tonne of smoke coming out of one of the choppers for him to see. You'd have though will all that hightech kit on a compass could have been placed on him.
One thing that the crew could never have known is his true state of mind throughout the journey. A lot of the checks were just part of their protocol to ensure Felix's safety. They planned to do them and whether or not they were completely necessary, they undertook them.

Actually watched this live from the RedBull YouTube feed today. Looked amazing by why the hell didn't they show a suit cam as he was falling.
I think any equipment that would allow the transmission from equipment he was carrying to the ground, if it were possible, would weigh too much and it's likely that, judging by the quality of the audio feeds, the signal would be poor and very intermittent. The footage will be on the BBC/NatGeo documentary but hopefully Redbull will put it on youtube before that.

I was pretty impressed we got live footage from 128,000 ft, live from his suit in freefall? That is certainly pushing todays tech, we'll have to wait for the documentary!
