Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

Depends,Android tablets for example 1024x600 is quite normal, personally rather have an Android tablet then Win8 tablet ,Win8 has its uses ie in my case for my laptop.

Yeah, but there's still not that many of them all things considered. Windows 8 is a next generation OS so supporting very low resolution devices isn't a priority. Even the new wave of 7 inch tablets and smartphones blow away that pixel count.

It doesn't matter what android devices are, you can't install win rt yourself any way. So stating what android devices are, is pointless. There's only ONE windows tablet that does not meet the 1366x768 and it baffles me why HP would shoot themselfs in the feet like that.

How do you know people in the other videos don't play dumb :D
It's funny non the less and win8 isn't hard, people just don't like change.

Was joking ;)

I think the old man one is best. You'd have to try pretty hard not to randomly hit one of the corners the way he was going at it...I think his mouse was stuck to the desk :D

Lol it's funny to see Windows 8 has its fanboys.

"You don't like it so must be stupid - lalalalala I'm not listening why you don't like it"

Why is it so hard to understand that most people don't like it and some people do? It doesn't mean the people who don't like it are stupid. If you have to research shortcut keys and how to do stuff on the Internet then that's a flaw in the UI in my opinion. The iPad, etc is so user friendly that people only have to refer to things online for the more in depth stuff.

There's no point even trying to have a sensible argument with fanboys though as they won't listen to what people have to say. I use OSX, Win 7 and Linux. Even Unity and Gnome 3 made more sense overall than Win 7 without any research and they were flamed by their users and still are!

Who said that people who dislike it are stupid? Like making things up do we.

It's not a flaw at all, every single OS UI will need a certain amount of learning and asking/looking up. No different on osx/iOS/android/Linux or windows7.
Many people don't know even half the gestures in any off them. Loads of people do not to use two fingers to scroll down in boys on iOS, or multiple fingers to flick between apps. These are little known about features that are not intuitive. Most features simply can not be intuitive.

Xp was flamed there was even a petition to to save it(not that it needed saving) , there were articles about slow update, articles that it would never be taken up by home or Coporations etc. infant there's a few articles discussing the similarity between do articles at pre release and win8 articles.

I didn't like Windows 8 at first but I could and was getting used to it. But it's no good if I can't have it on my netbook also. So it looks like I won't be upgrading not until I buy a new laptop with a bigger resolution which I'm in no hurry to.

That works both ways though. A lot of people are just spreading FUD because it's the popular thing to do. If they've given it a real chance and still can't transition to the changes, or simply don't like the design then fair enough.

A lot of comments about what is wrong with Windows 8 tend to be unsubstantiated or overblown. Yes there is a learning curve on the desktop and it's not particularly intuitive for some time if you've done tasks in a certain way for 15 years. Once you're over this hurdle very little has changed.

For Tablet use there are much less complaints, so I'm sure it will be as easy to use as the iPad, when the desktop environment is not involved.

Not being a Linux expert I feel the same way when I want to do an advanced task in Linux that would be simple in Windows. I don't deride Linux for that, it's the gap in my own knowledge. I'm either prepared to learn, or I am not, it's not the OS's fault.

Windows 8 still needs a fair bit of polish, it's by no means perfect, but if you want balanced discussions you're not really promoting it yourself with an opening line like that ;)

Yes, good points here. The fact is that we have been using Windows 8 without any particular help and it seems to work fine. Sure a few short-cut keys will help (I am grateful to have found out "Windows Key r" to select a program.) Really, though, it is a matter of sorting out the 'metro' (are we ever going to lose this name?) screen to have the programmes we use arranged in groups. I don't imagine that many people here will be using many of the 'metro' apps but again, arranging what is needed will make it simple to use.

Really, I am not that keen on 'metro' but I quite see how it can speed up finding and opening applications and , who knows, I might quite like some of the live tiles. Once Windows 8 is launched, I hope there will be many more apps to look at and choose.

meanwhile, I am waiting until I can download it and get it installed.

Sorry if this has been asked before and I missed it?

Are the Download and boxed version upgrade versions the same? Specifically if I buy one boxed upgrade and buy two online updates can I use the boxed install media for all three and just use the different keys.

I am thinking on launch day the download service will be rammed.

You always get FUD when new OS appeared, just look at previous operating systems by Microsoft, problem with Win8 is by designing to be a tablet OS as well, the desktop users got the short straw ,Win8 can be jack of all trades but Win8 is a master of none IMHO, however its stable and fast with a much higher learning curve then previous Microsoft operating systems, sure some people will hate Metro(not a fan myself as a desktop user) and as always some things Microsoft have done that others and I won't like.

I do feel gamers got nothing new in Win8 unless you count Store,I do wish Microsoft had put as much thinking in Win8 as they did for tablet users, then maybe gamers might of got something new or improved.
Win8 you can look at in many different ways ie desktop user, gamer, tablet user etc...each one has different needs.

Having said that I will be buying Win8 for my laptop(I also use Win8 RTM version on my backup PC) but wanted Microsoft to throw gamers a new bone or two,or do they think gaming is all for consoles and they can't do nothing new with Windows for gaming?

I tried the dev preview a while back and the metro on my 24" screen looked absolutely disgusting. Like a 5 year old's flash game. It was also annoying as hell because it infected the atb+tab so i couldn't avoid it and kept going to it by mistake when i wanted to try and ignore i would find myself back at the metro screen constantly. :(

If only they just added a disable metro option.

With Shell or Start8 you can boot straight to desktop, thats what many users and I do,for the most part you can avoid Metro.

I end up putting short cuts etc.. on desktop via taskbar and Start button menu(I use that a lot).

How stable are those shell replacements, do they affect performance?

Has anyone tried quake live since most recent release of blocks 8 and amd drivers because last time i tried it didn't work. What about bf3 and diablo 3? any other software/games not working like in dev release?

No issues with Shell or Start8,try it yourself since you can always uninstall it via Uninstall Programs.
