Asus DSL-N55U Black Diamond

You too I assume? Best ISP by far.

Yep, been with Zen for a few years now. Have tried others that were cheaper, but have always been disappointed. Zen consistently give the best speeds, don't throttle your connection and have great customer support.

BTW, the wireless range of the Asus device is good too, with 5GHz throughput to 'n' devices being great. However worth noting that the 2.4GHz range extends further than the 5, so your devices may default to that range if you set the SSID's the same. Program such as inSSIDer will give you lots of good info to assist set-up :-)

Mine is still boxed and I plan to get it installed tomorrow as I have a free morning.

The acid test will be my daughters netbook and the wifi. The netbook seems too picky and between that and the homehub, they cause so much hassle. Im constantly changing the routers wifi channel to get 130mb's back. Her netbook refuses to work at any lower speed? My son's ps3 on the other hand works and holds the connection but lags terrible.

So fingers crossed this new asus router will sort this out.

New beta firmware this morning.

- Removed Manual Setting button while system performs Quick Internet Setup - automatic connection type detection.

- Add PIN code error alerting for USB dongle.

Remember, do a full hardware reset after installing it, using the button at the back

Right im up and running, connection speed has dropped to 13mbs, was around 22 to 24 on the homehub.
EDIT: has risen to 17... seems like it might be floating about settling in?

My firmware is currently on stock:

1.0.0.9
3.16.18.0
(FwVer:3.16.18.0_TC3086 HwVer:T14.F7_6.0)

@bledd
That firmware will work ok yes? I dont have to worry about anything... I stumbled upon something detailing hardware version A and B, mine looks like an A? built around march this year.

Soon as I get the new firmware on and tweak the line stats it will get a good testing tonight when everyone is in. I will soon report how its performed :)

I will be doing that asap! bit stuck at the moment with stuff.

I read the log wrong lol... the dsl speed has dropped like a stone :(
Hopefully the new firmware will sort that.

First thing, update the firmware (annex a = uk), then hold the reset button on the back to fully blank the settings. It's more thorough than the software reset.

^^

I said to do that before using it :p

Either get the latest official, or the latest beta. Can't say I've noticed a single problem with any of the beta versions, they're more small fixes and things like the USB ports, which I don't use.

Make sure you do a full reset after installing the new firmware

It is early days yet but even with the stock firmware I am happy, well im postively excited to report that my daughter is not constantly badgering me about her wifi going dead, which is one less headache for me lol.

So fingers crossed that little niggle has been put to rest!

Currently have my wife, my son and my daughter happily plodding along with a netbook, two pc's and a ps3.

Soon as they all turn in for the night I will get the firmware sorted.
EDIT: and see what I can do with the snr tweaky thing.

I've just ordered this to replace my aging DG834PN. Hoping for some improved wireless as the Netgear is pretty poor in both terms of speed and signal strength.

Ok chaps, after a bit of faffing around I have the beta firmware up and running. I am pleased to say that I have the original speed back that was present on the old homehub:

Data Rate Up : 1117
Data Rate Down : 21541

I did not touch the snr thing. Going to leave it alone now and see what happens over the next few weeks.

I dont know actually, I will give it a bash.

EDIT: 18.44mbps down and 0.94mbps up
Ok that is not good... I seem to have wrongly assumed the upload was a lot better than that on this line? I couldve sworn it was a lot higher on the old homehub...

But there a few tiny niggles... we seem to be getting corruption or something?
We browse with firefox and seems to work ok fine apart from one website www.tvtv.co.uk which is not exactly a reliable site at the best of times, but now it seems a lot worse with little bits out of place and things not lining up right. Random pictures will have patchy coloured squares?

Then my son complained about drop outs this morning, so I check the general log and find the modem did infact decide to drop out completely. I have not messed with anything other than put the beta firmware on...
