Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

im guessing i can use this for the £24.99 offer? did u receive a key?

and is it 32bit or 64bit?

Yeah it's for the £25 upgrade offer :) When mine gave the option to buy something it just said "Windows 8 Pro" so I'm guessing it'll check your system and just offer up what's possible. So 64bit installed OS it'll just give you 64bit. 32bit (with a 64bit capable CPU) and I'd imagine it would offer both.

Might want to bookmark the link page for buying Windows 8 tomorrow. :)

All that'll be doing is offering up the Upgrade Assistant that I posted above.

Thanks :)

Will this be up at 12am or is release some time during the day?

Anyone know if an ISO will be available, or do we have to use the upgrade assistant?

Everything goes through the Upgrade Assistant! Compatibility check, purchase, download and either install or transfer to media (it'll either create an ISO for you or transfer it directly to a bootable USB drive).

Yeah same here couldnt see anywhere at first but it tells you to enter promo code just before you comfirm to buy, just after the page you select payment method. Mine is now burned on a Disk ready for install when ive moved stuff from other drive.

I got caught out with it being out today. Currently backing up to external HDD as I'm wiping and starting fresh.

How have you done that ? When I try to run the upgrade assistant I get this error : Internal error : error running compatability check. Check logs for details.

Just went straight through no problems

Then install Windows 8 from fresh and do another install but choose the upgrade rather than install just like on windows 7?

Or... has this been stopped in W8?

You can choose clean install during the Windows 8 upgrade.

Cool, thanks :)

I hate doing this I really do, but not a lot of time to read thought the thread.

The link posted not much above for the £24.99 upgrade path, will this work okay to upgrade my OEN copy of Win7 64bit?

DO I need to make a clean install, or will this literally jsut update the OS meaning my software from current use will still be left intact?

Their where a few bits of music software I use which are a real bugger to install right so would be nervous having to do it all over again lol.

Yes, you can upgrade.

During the upgrade you get to choose if you want to clean install or upgrade.

is that the nothing choice ?

Not sure what you mean. When I upgraded at work with the technet version it asked if I wanted to upgrade, clean install or something else (partial clean install or something which just keeps your files but no programs I think). It should be the same for this version. They're both Pro.

Yeah credit card :) It gives you your serial in the Upgrade Assistant and emails you a copy too.

Okay....im going for it..at that price its too hard to resist..anything I should do before going through with it?
I have about 14GB free spcae on my SSD where my current OS and programmes are installed..will that be ok?

So it looks like I will have to wipe my Windows 8 Enterprise trial off now and reinstall Vista Business ready for the upgrade at midnight. See you later, folks! :D I may be some time.

Managed to get the Upgrade Assistant from the MS website. Entered payment details, promo code for £10.00 off, confirmed and downloading :)

I just bought and installed the £14.99 Windows 8 Pro x64.

I can't change the Theme in Personalisation. I click on a theme and it flickers the desktop but stays at the default one named Windows. I tried the Earth theme and the Flowers theme but it refuses to change. I even downloaded the UK theme but it doesn't change to it.

The second problem is Windows Update has a few updates but they fail and revert after the reboot.

Anyone else having the same issues?

Do yourself a favour - don't let Vista Windows Update open the floodgates. Otherwise we'll see you in two weeks.
