Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

I'm getting this message on the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant:

Windows 8 isn't available for download
Sorry, Windows 8 isn't available for online purchase in the country/region that you're in.

I'm impatient. :p

Well I've been royally shafted. My £25 product key is tied in to a 32-bit version of Windows 8 when I wanted to run a 64-bit version. Looks like I'm going to be going back to the 20th century. :( :(

Reading the last few pages, everything about this launch sounds a complete headache. Or.... it's between different peoples experiences. At least with Apple it's one OS, no confusion and it's all 64bit. No 32bit version only, oh and you have to buy the disc for 64bit. No N version or another version.

Microsoft still does my head in. They make things difficult when it does not need to be.

It was so simple back in the XP days, Home or Pro versions. 32bit or 64bit or both supplied. The end. None of this, oh sorry 32bit is download only.

Why can't they have an all in one download and specific keys triggers the version you bought.

I think microsoft have confused themselves with this launch, or it just doesn't translate well to the marketing dept and on to the public.

The product key will work with both 32-bit and 64-bit.

Thanks, I didn't know that but I can't get hold of the 64-bit version now. When I go to re-download the software, it always goes for the 32-bit version. So I'm in a pickle.

Completely thicko question, but where does it download the actual windows 8 install files to ?

I've gone through the compatibility wizard tool, purchased and it downloaded but didn't ask, or tell me where the files will go, and I can't find them :( Then once it finished downloading I chose 'I'll install later' but have no idea how to find the files or kick the install off now :(

You should have a shortcut on your desktop?

Or have a nosy in C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebSetup\Sources for the executables.

Can someone just clarify the size of the TMP file in the directory

C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebSetup\Download

for the 64-bit version?

Guys stupid question but how do I check my install is 100% registered ok before proceeding to upgrade to w8?

Just run Dirt 3 and apparently "Games for windows live has compatibility issues with windows 8"

Nice to see MS felt the need to get their own gaming system working.... :D
