Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

It was a good interface. The default theme looks like the flat "you've got a crap graphics card so can't have Aero" one from Vista.

This is what I mean. I hate the big bars around programs that are open, When they aren't full screen. Aero kind of hid that in the previous ones.

Is there any significant speed gains over WIndows 7? I mean WIndows 7 with a decent SSD is fast enough as it is.

I've only been playing with Win 8 since late yesterday, but it does feel and work a lot snappier, which is nice, because as you said, win 7 is no slouch

boot up / shutdown is much faster even from a SSD

Anyone managed to boot into safe/recovery mode without going to windows first. Internet says hold shift and mash f8 button, but I can't get that to work.

If you're on SSD you made it hard for yourself, its almost instant. Press F8 twice a second at least

Definitely boots faster but nobody has to upgrade especially if you have a fast machine anyway. Since its designed for mobiles I think it might be the people on the lowest spec see the best gains

At this price I think it'd be silly not to for someone on XP since that is a big leap though I always liked XP for booting up in 100 meg.
Im not sure how low the meg for win8 can boot up in when paired down

I've tried both on mine SSD and my parents slow HDD and I can't get it to boot to safe mode.
Has this feature been removed from the RTM

just once a week check it and if it says needs optimize just click optimize.

Do all SSD have trim now pretty much as I have one ancient one knocking round I might try fitting win8 onto it

After playing around with Win 8, Metro is nice, but I feel a touchscreen would really take advantage of it. Desktop mode is fine but it doesn't feel as great as 7 to me for some reason also things like Firefox seems to have a few glitches with it.

Luckily I still have 7 on another partition...
