Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

at first my boot up times were a little slow but its fast now perhaps its was updates slowing it down.

By the way do you need a internet connection to sign in as it uses a ms account as you sign-in now?

so far Im fairly pleased but it does take a lot of getting used too!

There is a local account and the wider ms account which needs to be online

So long as this upgrade dvd works on a blank disk, any errors should be ironed out hopefully. This oem win7 install is a mess, no way to fix it and its failing to upgrade presently but trying alternatives :/

Installed today over a copy of Vista 64. So far, I'm hating Windows 8. What's all of this nonsense about not having a close or reduce button for apps, and why no easy to reach shutdown/restart button.

The only positive thing I have found so far is the free Jetpack Joyride app, with the promise of many decent apps to follow.

I certainly won't bother upgrading my Windows 7 machines for a long while.

go to Personalisation then click automatic then choose automatic.

I know that but cheers :)

I meant like it was before on the old Windows aero interface, It looks different on Windows 8. The other guy posted what I meant, Its like vista/7 without a decent graphics card/driver not installed.

Alt+F4 works well, just like it always has, and you can also drag from the top of the app down to the bottom of the screen to close it.

and why no easy to reach shutdown/restart button.

Quickest way to get there is Winkey+I, or Alt F4 again :p

Guys what Antivirus works well on windows 8 ?

is one needed as windows does have one ?

also when windows update assistant checked my laptop before installation it listed a compaitability issue with secure boot saying I will not be able to use this feature? , is this a big problem?

thanks

Windows defender = Microsoft Security Essentials pretty much, and its already included in Windows 8.

I would say a 3rd party antivirus is not needed, because Windows defender is enough.

Oh my... I think I found a problem. Typing some stuff, then tried to use the left arrow on the keyboard to change the previous word. It doesn't work. Checked to see if the other arrow keys are fine, and they worked. Same problem occurs with the onscreen keyboard. Keyboard works fine with the 7 partition.

Well this is going to be a problem when typing up essays...

People are actually buying this to replace Win7 on their desktop PC's

Yes got a problem with that?..better security, faster bootup and shutdown, loads of software including free stuff in Store, better battery life on laptops etc....very stable and no driver issues, can run it as desktop or tablet based, very low price to buy so why wouldn't you?...

I just got to upgrade my fairly new laptop now from 7 to 8 for £14.99(got my promo code already).
