Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

You are thinking about stuff too much the network bar is full of wireless networks on mine..... No need to be so OCD about making sure stuff is closed either, apps just get suspended when not used.

This. My whole page is full of wireless networks, and there is loads of options when you right click them.

It's pretty obvious that most people who are wired are only going to see one connection in that list....isn't it?

I should add that thank god for vista switcher which allows me to add an exclusion for the network "app" and remove it from my alt+tab. I think i might make a thread called "windows 8 gripes and fixes".

Well, as you are actually running the OS now, i guess you are in a better position to comment than you were a few days ago. You never did acknowledge that you were wrong about the lock screen or the (lack of) truncation of the tile names on the start screen....
did u try win8 preview? if yes, u can't really moan about win8/metro because if u didn't like win8 preview u shouldn't of bought win8

Oh he didnt, at least not the consumer preview or the RTM. Actually this is something that is bugging me; the sheer amount of people buying the OS only to complain about it - the previews have been available for months and months yet people willingly wait and pay money for it....then complain?. Bizzare.

Still not convinced by Win 8 but have grabbed the upgrade for £15 and stuck it on a thumb drive for now. I think i'll wait and see what all the major bugs and gripes are people end up having with it as the days and weeks unfold before using.

Couldn't not buy it at that price really.

anyone know how to do this in win8.

To redirect a folder to your SkyDrive folder

1.
Close SkyDrive by right-clicking the SkyDrive icon (The SkyDrive icon) in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar, and then clicking Exit.

2.
Create a subfolder for the redirected files in your SkyDrive folder. For example, to redirect the My Pictures folder, you might create a folder on SkyDrive called "Pictures."

3.
Click the Start button, and then click your user name.

4.
Right-click the folder ("My Pictures" in this example), and then click Properties.

5.
Click the Location tab, and then click Move.

6.
Browse to the location where you want to redirect this folder (for example, %userprofile%\SkyDrive\Pictures).

7.
Click Select Folder, and then click OK.

8.
In the dialog box that appears, click Yes to move all the files to the new location.

9.
Restart the SkyDrive service by clicking Start, entering SkyDrive in the search box, and then clicking Microsoft SkyDrive.

A tip for anyone else still using an older ATI card (4850 on my HTPC) and wanting hdmi audio for 5.1 and DTS etc. ATI don't provide drivers for 'legacy' cards under Windows 8, the Micrsoft provided drivers work fine, but lack anything more than stereo over HDMI.

Install the Realtek hd audio drivers, 2.60 supports Windows 8 x86/x64 ATI HD audio, available from the Realtek site. XBMC is happy again and saved me £50-£90 on a new card.

So, I download the upgrade version, what happens if I need to reinstall it on my netbook again in the future? Hoe do I go about that?

I've finally gotten my upgrade purchased and downloaded (it only took just under half an hour to get the whole thing downloaded), but there's a few things I've got to sort out before the upgrade like unlinking my iTunes account from the laptop, updating the software/drivers for my printer, updating comodo internet security with an update that isn't mandatory or even available through the update system in the program and giving virtualbox the axe after retrieving a file I want to keep from the only virtual machine I have set up on there (from what I've heard, the issues aren't likely to be fixed).

Plus there's a file or two I've got to move across before hitting the upgrade trail.

anyone know how to do this in win8.

Only certain folders allow you to move them in that way, but navigating to them through the windows drive will give you that option when you right click >> properties. ie:

Once i have the upgrade version on a DVD, how easy is it to reinstall in the future? Does my current Vista have to on the laptop first? Unsure how it works.
