You are thinking about stuff too much the network bar is full of wireless networks on mine..... No need to be so OCD about making sure stuff is closed either, apps just get suspended when not used.
This. My whole page is full of wireless networks, and there is loads of options when you right click them.

To redirect a folder to your SkyDrive folder
1.
Close SkyDrive by right-clicking the SkyDrive icon (The SkyDrive icon) in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar, and then clicking Exit.
2.
Create a subfolder for the redirected files in your SkyDrive folder. For example, to redirect the My Pictures folder, you might create a folder on SkyDrive called "Pictures."
3.
Click the Start button, and then click your user name.
4.
Right-click the folder ("My Pictures" in this example), and then click Properties.
5.
Click the Location tab, and then click Move.
6.
Browse to the location where you want to redirect this folder (for example, %userprofile%\SkyDrive\Pictures).
7.
Click Select Folder, and then click OK.
8.
In the dialog box that appears, click Yes to move all the files to the new location.
9.
Restart the SkyDrive service by clicking Start, entering SkyDrive in the search box, and then clicking Microsoft SkyDrive.
Thanks for that! Much better now!
anyone know how to do this in win8.
Not even sure if it's possible with the Metro app since they are sandboxed.
So, I I download the upgrade version, what happens if I need to reinstall it on my netbook again in the future? Hoe do I go about that?

Still having issues. Worst Windows version ever. Only one to do this with a clean install.
