Major Graphics Card Problems - HD 6950

1. I take it you own a sapphire 6950 reference model? or is it a 6950 toxic or something ?

2.With gpu-z can you confirm that the bios switch has unlocked the shaders from 1408 to 1536, also do you clocks rise from standard 800/1250 with the bios switched over.

3. standard vcore for default 800mhz 6950/6970 is 1.1v, and 1.175v
So you may need to increase your vcore if its at 900 with 1.1v.

Hey

I was playing for about 3 hours.. then it came again! On a crucial point xD

Does everybody get this a lot, or daily? Or should I be receiving none of this?

From personal experience with the 6950 no. I was playing games for a good 10hrs straight yesterday (bad weather, my excuse) with no such messages or hiccups. You obviously shouldn't be experiencing this. What settings is your gpu at? gpu clock/ mem clock/ voltage? I'll compare it to mine if that helps 900/1350/1.125

I've got this: http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1041&pid=1271&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

It was 1536, I switched the BIOS back after a crash or two so it is now 1408
the clocks do not rise with bios switched, they are always 800/1250.

I don't want to overclock anymore, I get too many errors :(

This is what it looks like when the display device error crashes, when I exit the game I find these errors (it only happened after I switched BIOS to 6970): http://i.imgur.com/rqEIG.png

Mine have all been reset to standard now. :)

Can you link me to a 6950 OC guide? I've found some, and I'm pretty sure there are loads but I want to know a lot of information, especially for novice's like me. :P

P.S - Jesus 10 hours! lol

I meant that I had not realised that CCC and Trixx/AB were both OCing as well..

Even though I hit reset and apply.. I dont really think it was my fault though.

@fanguy

How am I meant to mount the fans? I just mounted them all in one direction because I couldn't find any guides on airflow and case cooling, I found liquid cooling but no air.

I think I have fixed the problem though.

I went here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946

and selected FIX IT FOR ME.. and some how after the restart .. no problems so far! :)

I'm so happy AMD Display Responding error's have stopped happening. I love you Microsoft! xD

That sounds like an interesting thing, fix it for me. Has anyone else tried it? Sounds like what it does is a good idea in principle.

very strange error mate, was wondering what your psu is and how you've connected up the 6950 to it. Does the 6950 run heaven benchmark ok ?

Also i take it you are 1408, 800, 1250 at 1.1v with these errors?
worth checking the vrm temps too also what catalyst version are you running?

OCZ ModXStream 500w Modular Power Supply - it is a great PSU though.

I've connected up with the 6950 with two cables???

It does run heaven benchmark OK, I've only tested it for 10-20 mins though.

How can I check VRMP temps and voltage?

AMD version 12.10

using gpu-z you should see on the bottom v-reg temp and vddc which is your gpu v-core, you can select different paramaters for each sensor ie max, min, average etc..

Try catalyst 12.6 12.4 or something earlier than 12.10 just in case its driver?

Otherwise I cant really help you much more im afraid.

I have the same card as you except mine is a 2gb and have never encountered that error even when ive went a tad too far with overclocking so I really dont know whats up as far as the card is concerned. As for an overclocking guide well I just tinkered about with it as I had no previous experience. I just made sure I didnt over do the voltage.

OK

I've downgraded, reinstalled cleaned all system everything.. and just plain out done everything man

I still get this display device errors, albeit very rarely but I still get them (usually in crucial game points), and it's ****ing me off.

It happens like an hour or two, and my game freezes (but I can hear people on VoIP) and then after 5 seconds I get a static flash and then I can play like normal again..

I've tried adjusting fan speed to 50% on idle and 100% when 60+ percent load.
