Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

found the following guide, post 3 downwards useful, got my install down to 17GB (not installed WMC yet)..

http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds

turned off hibernation
flushed restore points but kept it enabled on the system drive
turned off drive indexing
changed power options to high performance
run WEI
turned off defrag on a couple of partitions such as recovery where its not necessary
disabled superfetch and prefetch

Could someone please tell me is there a system backup option
in windows 8. Not system restore but an option to backup
the whole system drive?.

It's now called 'File History' but this backs up user files now rather than the whole drive. You can find it in Control Panel.

control panel\all control panel items\recovery
from description it says ''Create a recovery drive to refresh or reset your PC''
not sure if that is what you want or if it will do what you want it to do.

Anyone found a way to remove apps from the 'your apps' list in Store.

A few things that I tried out and will never use again still appear in this list, my only option is to install them again. Can't see a way to remove them from the list.

Click right on the app you want to un-install and then click the un-install icon at the bottom left of the screen. Its the same process of adding or removing apps from the start screen or quick launch bar.

I'm only a few steps away from upgrading my laptop to windows 8, but there are a few concerns about drivers

Should I use the latest windows 8 compatible drivers from the websites of the device manufacturers or should I use the drivers supplied by acer (who don't seem to be bothered in offering windows 8 drivers for my laptop).

The problem is that I haven't been able to find a driver for the wi-fi (although the LAN driver was a windows 7 driver) and the website for the touchpad tells me to go to the manufacturer of my laptop (which brings me back to square one).

I could pick up some of the more generic drivers (I think there won't be that much of a difference between touchpads on different laptops if they're from the same device manufacturer) but I'm not sure if I could cover those that might have different versions of components that my laptop has.

I doubt it, why do you want to remove them?
Don't latest purchases/installed ones show first anyway, so they'll quickly go to the back anyway.

I'm hoping someone can help.

I've installed Windows 8 on my SSD drive and came to the realisation that some software I use isn't working very well with it at all, since I need it to I've installed Windows 7 on my second drive hoping to be able to choose between which OS to start upon boot.

However my computer just loads Windows 7 without asking - is there any way I can get the "choose operating system" screen up?

Anyone have a fix for the Metro version of Chrome constantly showing "didn't shut down correctly"? Small problem but annoying.

Thanks although I've since removed my W7 drive and left the W8 drive in to see if I can get that to boot up properly. It of course booted up fine, reassigned itself the C:\ letter.

Shut down, plugged my second drive (W7) back in and now the partition of that drive which I shrunk to install the OS on is assigned the letter F: whilst the data partition part of the drive is D:

I'm now running on Windows 8, have checked in advanced start up and recovery but it only gives me the option of Windows 8 as the Operating System to boot off.

Any ideas how I can make it aware that there's the possibility to boot from the Windows 7 drive too?

I should get a screen like this but I don't...

Yeah win8 the train wreck as some say

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com...pgrades-since-friday/articleshow/17024222.cms
SEATTLE: Microsoft Corp Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said on Tuesday the company has sold 4 million upgrades to Windows 8, signaling a strong start for its new operating system which launched on Friday.

Ballmer, speaking at a meeting for software developers at Microsoft's headquarters near Seattle, said hundreds of millions of Windows systems would be sold over the next year, and the company was seeing strong interest from business users.

Ballmer already said on Monday that Windows 8 was outselling the previous version, Windows 7, at the same stage after launch three years ago.

Laptop sales also 20% up over forecasts.

I bet they are I recon w8 tablets be it rt or pro is exactly what some companies have been waiting for.

Well of course it will out sell 7, for £14.99, people will pay it and not bother pirating it.

That doesn't account for 20% jump in laptop sales.
And the 4million is upgrade only, not sure if just download of it taht includes boxed versions.

And most people are buying it at £25, not that it makes a huge difference.
