My Surface for Windows RT Review

That's still not proper angry birds, what about the original lol?
Even with Star wars, we'd still have 2 of the many different versions.

However, it's a positive sign we've got star wars.

He asked for angry birds Star Wars. Not angry birds.

I doubt there's much incentive to bring out angry birds, as the sales must be tiny these days, everyone played it.

Just a note for those who may be wondering. If there is a non-ARM compatible app in the store it doesn't show up at all for Windows RT users (as far as I can tell) so it's looking like they're automatically filtered out. Which is sensible.

If you can find it on the "website"
Like thus, in details it tells you what is supported, may show that in the marketplace as well?
http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/en...tar-wars/c7628194-ce39-4a18-97e9-590af59c2fd0
Supported processors
x86, x64, ARM

I don't understand why the website is not searchable, the WP marketplace is searchable online.

Yeah, it shows the details, but if the app is not ARM compatible its not even listed in the Windows RT store at all (on the device). There are apps for x86 and x64 only for example that return no results if you search for them on Windows RT.

Angry Birds Star Wars is up now btw.

One thing I hate about it.

The xBox Music app in itself is terrible, just a whoring of advertising and nothing to directly just interact with MY music on the device, still really shockingly poor interface controls etc for video and music playback.

Is their ANYTHING on the store yet thats better?

http://www.theverge.com/2012/11/9/3622306/surface-touch-cover-audio-issues

A report in The Guardian notes that Touch Cover users are reporting some hardware issues too. A number of users have spotted that the Touch Cover edge appears to be fraying, exposing the wiring of the cover. The Verge staff has a unit with the defect and Microsoft is shipping a replacement free of charge to affected users.

Hehe, I called this over a week ago. ;)

Umm, im going to say this now, but If anyone gets a replacement at some point..can I have you old one!? lol

Also, having W8 on my Pc and teh RT, the different layout of tiles can be a bit disorientating for a moment.

Also moving the tiles to put them in the order I want seems near impossible via the touch on teh screen.

This might interest some of you who are undecided and wonder what win8 offers. Distributor Computer 2000 has seen such a serge in sales of win8 tablets, they've made a website for retailers, shop floor works ect. That covers many things, to show of features an learn benefits of win8 etc.

What do you mean? I had a problem on my main machine where I couldn't install anything from the store, resolved it by using the refresh feature.

Jut as you described actually, the dots would run across the top but nothing downloaded, tried again today and seems to be working.

However last night was kinda bad, half way using it, my WiFi died and no connections would show, ran diagnostics and it found the WiFi adaptor had turned itself off, what the he'll is that about!

The price for being on the cutting edge? ;)

If it keeps happening you'll be able to go for a return I guess although I'd suggest double checking your power settings and doing a refresh before returning it. So far I haven't encountered any serious bugs, I did manage to get an error message about the sound card when I unplugged my headphones though.

As long as Microsoft keeps the platform well supported in updates I don't actually have a problem with a few rare bugs, it's inevitable when you consider the size and complexity of Windows against iOS or Android. I can understand why a lot of people wouldn't be happy about such things on a tablet OS though.

Well one good thing, seem to be MS are on the ball very well, a large update for W8 but also RT is coming end of next week.
Perhaps some early optimizations?

Excellent balanced review, thank you.

Microsoft should have released it on cutting edge hardware that will give the OS some legs. As it stands I can't see the hardware still being usable in 2 years. That's one good thing about Google, you are guaranteed support for a long time with OS updates.
