Just picked up the new Asus 27 IPS Monitor

I had exactly the same problem with my Asus monitor and I sent it back and got a refund (from a OCuK competitor), although I did not have to pay return postage with the other company.

I'd rather take my chance with a replacement as I got it for a decent price. Any idea on the ETA for a replacement?

I just set up the monitor now and I've found a black mark on the bottom right corner of the screen, just my luck. There also seems to be a dead/stuck pixel at the upper right corner.

This is what I'm wary of. Fingers crossed you get a good replacement mate.

It really is a brilliant monitor. If it was just the pixel then I wouldn't bother replacing as it is unnoticeable unless you really look for it with your face up to the screen on a white background.

Hoping to get it resolved soon.

Cheers

A quick question:
When viewing the monitor from around 18" away, eyes approximately level with the top of the screen in the centre and I run a black background, the bottom two corners appear to have a glow to them. If I move my head directly in front of the bottom corners, the glow disappears. Is this normal IPS glow or backlight bleed?

That sounds like IPS glow rather than backlight bleed. Try raising/tilting the monitor so you're square on to it and don't get too close.

Thanks Louis. I have noticed what must be backlight bleed though. Its on at the top right of the screen on the horizintal edge and it's a fairly big patch :( That bit doesn't get better viewing from any angle.

I have the asus and i have to say at first i was having Major back light bleeding but after a week it all went apart from a tiny bit in 1 corner, not noticeable really.

all IPS screens have some degree of failure, even dell, its the technology they use. I was pretty unlucky with my BLB and almost returned it, but it did settle to almost no BLB.

apart from that NO problems loving every moment of it.

I say just buy one and stop looking at 1/100 people who say they have a bad monitor.

Cheers fella, I think I'm gonna wait until the new year and see if there are any different models out or wait for prices to drop. After having a look around I am quickly becoming bored of my 5 year old Samsung.

I have got my eye on another monitor but its more expensive. Don't really wanna spend more then 500 notes. :(

I've owned two of these screens and both panels have had slightly emphasised blb, most prominent at the top right corner. My most recent panel is the worst I have a dead pixel which appears only when a red background is displayed.
The only reason I'm sticking to this one is the white balance is quite even across the display. My previous one had a more yellow left side and the dead pixel ain't too much an issue.

Shame the quality control on such an expensive device is poor. You'd think they would spot these issues a mile away and fix them.

I recieved one of these yesterday and it appears to be pretty much spot on.

Minimum backlight bleed, no dead pixels or dust although I need to do some more extensive checks. The AG coating is very nice, just about right actually.
Not too glossy and none of the downsides of a heavier coating if it is something that bothers you (imo).

The amazing thing is that you don't realise how much better the picture quality is in comparison to a TN panel unless they are sitting next to each other (not that I had a problem using the TN of course).

The only issue is that I have become quite attached to surround in the last few weeks and it does appear as though occasionally, waiting too long to pick up more of the same model can mean that different batches can differ with regards to image (colours etc). Maybe they will come up on offer again soon. ;)

Pretty sure my wife has bought me one of these for my birthday, despite 1000 hints not from OCUK. Slightly worried though as I prefer to use OCUK for these items as customer service is really good

I just got my replacement monitor (amazing service from OCUK once again), and it's perfect. I really couldn't be much happier. Brilliant monitor and probably the best you are going to get for you buck on the market right now.

Are the built-in USB ports worth the extra £75 to you?

USB Ports doesn't interest me but since it has slightly better colours, does not use PWM dimming and not so many cases of back light bleed makes this an interesting fight between the two.

Obviously not worth the extra £75 though.

Well, expertreviews claim the PB278Q to have better colours out of the box.

I'm not going to say that some people don't get affected by PWM, but I don't notice it at all and my brightness is set to 27. I have a feeling that people expect the PWM, and due to placebo, may think they "perceive" it.

In the end, it is up to the consumer to decide whether the price difference is worth it. I was just after a top notch monitor at a decent price, and I think I have found it. :)

That's good to hear, any insight on what it's like whilst gaming?

I am very interested in this monitor and I am the Viewsonic, really want to upgrade asap.

Cheers

I can't help feel a lot of fuss is now made about monitors with PWM even though most people would never ever see any negative affects of its use. It's been used for many many years. Had prad.de and TFTcentral not published articles about it as a technology would anyone even know it was being used? Did people worry about it before? Did people completely write off monitors they'd never used or tried simply because it had PWM backlight dimming? I don't think so...

People would just forget about whether it was being used or not. Sure, a few people may experience issues where it was used but I bet there's far more people worried about it now than there probably should be

It has some of the lowest input lag and screen ghosting of all 1440p monitors. I personally do not notice any, but then I haven't tried any of the gaming TN panels which I am lead to believe will be noticeably better in that regard. But then you lose out on the eye candy, so it's personal preference again.

From what I have read, you cannot get much better than the PB278Q when it comes to gaming, without dropping down to a 1080p TN panel.

I've been playing a lot of BF3 and Hitman Absolution recently, and they look absolutely awesome on this monitor.

@ Baddass - I agree, it is being blown way out of proportion, and without hearing about it I'd say 99% of the people out there wouldn't notice it.

Must agree there, games simply looking beautiful on this screen.
