AMD to Nvidia Upgrade time.

Sooooo...After all these arguments the moral of the story Nitesurfer is....

Don't get an nVidia card, fix the (user) error with your system.

and overclock the hell out of what you have got seems to be what I am getting from it.

I have nothing against this at all.

For example I overclocked my GTX 8800 to get a few more fps out of Crysis at the time.
I also overclocked my Core2Duo from 2.4 - 3.4GHz and that gave a nice (needed) boost.

However most overclocking does seem to be purely epeen and nothing more.

Some people are seeing around a 40% gain from overclocking. Standard 7950 clocks are 800 core which is far below what most chips are capable of. Some chips are capable of 1200 core which is a 50% gain on the clock. Overclocking on chips like these are far from pointless as the gains are almost like going next gen. Even on my 6870 in bf3 on stock minimums were 34 before an overclock and 45 after which is a really nice gain. Its hardly epeen, its called getting free performance and a lot in some cases.

Your 660 ti is a chip that should be overclocked especially on the memory to relieve from the bottleneck of its low bandwidth.

7950 the best bang for buck! End of story...

Like you said before, but did anyway? OKAY

I'm having my Dinner!!!! :p

SkodaMart is eating toenails. Fact.

(judging by his own post which he said he would rather do that than speak to spoffle so one can only assume this is what's happened.)

Indeed.

My own 7950 goes from run of the mill performance out the box to pretty darn good performance while clocked. At my 24/7 speeds I'm only 10% slower than my beastly old 680 which did 1300 on the core; if I want to clock to 1200 on the 7950 I can get to within 7-8% which ain't bad at all for the price. Comparing to a more normal 680 would see my 7950 within less than 5%.

All in all I probably if I was to do anything different I would probably have kept the WF 680 just for 3D on the odd occasion I use it.

It was a toss up with that and making £120 back and I chose the latter. :)

I've actually played a game for the first time in weeks today so it was probably the right decision in hindsight but I do miss the old 680. It truly was a beast :).

I'm just saying that 7950 is probably one of the best value cards that has ever came out.
I use to be a fan of nvidia but Iv changed my mind after 7950.
gregster, I didn't buy the gpu yet, today I have to take out the ram and send it back to ocuk for RMA. My bad that, I only send 1 stick...
Most 7950 clock to 1100/1400 without much hassle, also the card is a bit faster than gtx 680.

It's not when both are overclocked. At least at 1080. The 680 holds a fairly comfortable lead which you'd expect.

1440 I'd say it's a bit faster while overclocked but having not tested myself it's difficult to say.

1920x1080 :)

The last line which is bold and underlined is wrong at your res :) If you had said 5760*1080, I would have agreed but not at 1080P :)

Would 7870 be a better value for my res?
Isnt 7950 faster than 680 also in 1920x1080

Again a good card but like the 660TI, it is still a little pricey. I would rather go for the 7950. Without a fps counter, you wouldn't tell the difference between a 680/670/7970. As you said, best bang per pound purchase is the 7950 :)

And like I said, No, the 7950 isn't faster than a 680 at 1920x1080 (1080P) :)

What's the difference in %?
