My Surface for Windows RT Review

The colours are in no way terrible, they're just a bit less saturated than the current iPad. The biggest drawback to the screen I've found is the digitiser in sunlight can be pretty easy to see.

Really?...you think, taking a few test shots on each the colours where washed out, very faded looking and the blacks where a distinct grey looking, not close to the seem colour depth at all.

I have an iPad3 and a Surface. I really thought I'd notice the lack of the resolution when using the Surface but I just don't.

Same. I think I said it a few posts back that the Surface has changed the way I think about these 1366x768 screens.

The colours have been pretty much spot on for me, and I have a calibrated monitor to compare it with. There is no way on earth I could describe it as terrible considering some of the screens that are out there.

I don't think anyone who has one is slating the screen at all.

Its not as sharp, but in term of screen quality in colours and such its the best I have seen, beside an iPad the colours look terrible on it, but you get the resolution.

I think he means that the colours on the iPad look terrible, not the Surface.

Unfortunately I can't compare them now as my Surface won't charge but the last time I compared the difference in colour to my eye was visible when they're side by side but nothing huge. I did notice stuff on youtube seemed to be a bit brighter but I put that down more to flash than anything.

That's a bummer that it won't charge :(

Let us know how your customer service is. Its a bit of a disadvantage not being able to take it into a shop.

Been using one at work. What a backwards, I'll thought out, ugly, half finished, underspecced, infuriating paperweight this tablet is. Was hoping to really like it but I can't find anything...

Really, care to share some specifics as to how you came to that conclusion?

Im using mine with the office suite for work all day now.

Interesting. I'm using mine as my primary work device so I don't need to carry my bus of a laptop around with me. It's been nothing but fantastic for that use so far.
Being able to edit a proposal, with "track changes" properly implemented, on the train with the device sat on my knee is great.

How is it for using it in bed? Probably my primary use will be reading the net and bed and hoping to god there is an NFL game pass app next year if I get it.

Also is their an outlook app with similar to layout to desktop outlook? Quite like outlook, layed out well and looks nice

No probs in bed, in fact the built in stand is quite handy for laying back and propping it up if your watching anything, not so great in portrait mode, but I cant imagine using a screen that size in portrait to be honest.
The only mail client is the metro styled one, nothing for desktop in terms of email so far.

Portrait mode is useless as far as I'm concerned, plus its about the only time I would say the device suffers for resolution.

The kick stand plus cover combination works fantastically as a stand as you are basically carrying around your own flat surface (no pun intended) I really hope Microsoft don't deviate from such a design because for me its one of the defining features.

Think I might have to go for this then, I love the tile interface and not too fussed on lacking apps, only use spotify and NFL and at least one is confirmed thankfully

Hoping if I order now it'll manage to be here for Christmas

Its a good tablet, although I would advise running Windows Update a couple of times when you get it. It upgrades Office RT preview to the RTM version and there is also a firmware upgrade that smooths out a few wrinkles.

Its about time. I know of two people who probably would have bought one if they could have just walked into a shop and picked one up. Microsoft have a lot to learn if they are going to succeed as a device company.
