MSI GTX 670 or HIS 7970

If I were you I would go for the 7970. However, I don't think you'll be able to go CrossFire without a CPU upgrade - it will bottleneck. You should be able to run a single 7970 though.
 
Had a change of heart, can't justify paying the extra if the 7950s can overclock to speeds equal to the 7970>
Is it really worth paying the extra for the 7970 guys?

Looks like you have to enable 'Force constant voltage' to enable voltage decrease/increase in MSI Afterburner, but that breaks powerplay i.e. voltages won't drop in desktop.

I have a Gigabyte 7950 WF3, from a very new batch, it's as above, but locked at 1.25v, I switched to F42 bios off the Gigabyte website, and it's unlocked - the current batches from OcUK should be fine.

If your running Crossfire, probally better to get the HIS IceQ's, should clock quite abit, also they blow air directly outside the case, so should keep temps nice.

Is that definitly right then? No need to use 'Force Constant Voltage' in MSI Afterburner, like ViRuS2k mentioned, breaking power saving features?

Why would you need to do that? and where did ViRuS2k say that? :)

I can get the slider to unlock and extend the overdrive limits, default is in msi afterburner : 975 ? is that not correct ? as msi shows default under hardware monitoring as : 0.949v

i think i have tryed everything lol wont budge....

also idle voltages seem to be fluctuating between the 2 cards at idle : 1 card is : 0.949v and never changes but the other one changes between 0.806v and 0.949v ??? shouldnt it be constantly the same as the other card ?

also i have noticed that a fan on one of my cards completely shuts off lol

seems these cards are more or issues compaired to the 69xxx series i had before.

i hope i have not picked the wrong cards.

Which is normal, in any case i think thats why he did it. (despite the fact that he did not need to)

He also has 7950 BE's, 'I think' which are voltage locked.
I think you need to ask him to clarify a few things :)
