*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Annoying how the 4.2.1 update seems to have broken the wiimote app. Hopefully they can find a fix soon. Sent from my N7 by the way. ;)

Probably not Crumply, having said that though I've got an iPad3 which I never get near as the wife or our daughter is always playing it. They take little interest in the smaller Nexus as I've only put my utils/games on it so at least I have something to use.

Entirely depends what you want to use it for, I've watched a couple of movies on it already - something I never did on our iPad. can't explain why but when I do have the choice between them I for the easier to hold Nexus 7, not sure what i'd pick if I had an iPad mini though :)

Very different beast from the iPad though, finding far more quality FREE apps than in the iTunes store and the accessories are vastly cheaper, got an excellent case from a rainforest shop for £12 (Poetic HardBack Protective Case )

Thanks for that pal,
I think I'll get her to get me the nexus as I'm the same as you and my partner is allways on the ipad as I don't get a sniff.

Thomss, I always charge fully before, it's just an OCD thing about the battery! On it now, having to use 'center parks' WiFi which is painfully slow! Excellent addition to my galaxy nexus phone since my macbook is on its way out.

Guys... I got one of these today and have been using it for the best part of the day, but one thing I've noticed and am finding quite frustrating is the fact that when typing with the default keyboard it will sometimes delete entire sentences if I hit backspace. I don't really know what the trigger is, but it seems completely random (though it is quite frequent).

Apart from just downloading a new keyboard, is there anything to stop this from happening?

Got a Nexus 7 today as a present :-)
Anyway noticed issues with the left hand side, sort of stretch marks all along the inside and a slight bit of the infamous screen lift. Should I just get a case and forget about it or bring it back and hope for better?

Take it back if you can, mine is perfect, no reasons yours shouldn't be too.

Incidentally had my first hands on a Kindle Fire HD today (Brother bought my dad it for his christmas). Got to say I feel validated in my choice of Nexus 7 over it now! Just doesn't compete when you see them side by side for even basic functionality.

How do I install all the apps on my mobile to the nexus 7? All I can see us to do it individually which would take some time!
mine just asked me if I'd like to install all my apps when I signed in for the first time with the same id....

Send it back. Screen lift seems like a fairly minor issue but the constant flexing of the screen will likely weaken it, and you could end up with a cracked or shattered display down the line.

I can see what looks like screen lift on left and right aside of my nexus, but I can only see it when I hold it level and look down the side, so its quite subtle.

Does this actually effect functionality at all or is it just aesthetics? Work bought it for me for Xmas so returning is out of the question, is it covered under warranty?

Not at all, its just some quality control issues, popping it in a case should help against that. Thats what my mate does, my n7 is flawless thankfully. From what ive seen, you can either return to store for a replacement (if you have a receipt) or try and go directly via asus.

Agreed, get it replaced if you can, theres no reason why you should have to suffer a less than perfect Nexus 7. This issue should have been sorted ages ago.

I believe work bought them from ASUS/Google. I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes. How long have you had yours? Mine was flawless then it appeared :'(

What's the best solution to getting flash to work well on these?

I've installed the Adobe Flash apk and tried both Dolphin Browser HD and Firefox. Dolphin browser just locks up when you view a webpage with flash embedded on it where as Firefox work fairly well. The only disappointment is the rather stuttery playback.

Is this just a result of having to "bodge" it or is there a combination of apk's and/or browsers that can be installed that would give me fluid and smooth flash playback?

Flash works fine in Firefox for me (non beta version).

Something usefully, if a bit of a faff, that I found is an app called Flashify that adds a link to the Share menu in Chrome that lets you choose another browser to open that page in. It means if I hit a flash site in chrome I can just tap it, select Firefox, and there's no need to copy URLs and things about. Works fine for the few times I need flash, although I would obviously prefer a built in solution, or flash to just die.

Cheers for the that. I'll try Firefox again in that case. Playback was pretty awful earlier but I was visiting my parents and using their less than great wifi.
