*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Naa, not due to you using the screen. Trust me, its a fault, it might have come too tight from the factory and the quality control issues.

You do not want to keep using it while it does that.

Right guess I try and short that out in the morning this is a clip of the problem you can see along the bottom and then in the middle

Yeah its as i said, faulty. Those panels are rated to be able to take a lot more brunt than that before you get anomalies like that.

I have never been able to re-produce some of the symptoms that other people have had on my tablet. You could check the screws for the panel but to be honest, its way past due for them to have sorted out the quality control.

Whats the problem exactly? My nexus does this, so does my colleagues. So does my phone, and my gf's ipad.

You should never be pushing the screen that hard anyway? Everything I do on my N7 involves light taps or swipes... are you extremely heavy handed or something?

+1 why in heavens name would you need to be pushing so hard?

On second look, that does seem like an absurd amount of pressure. Though i wasn't able to make it happen on mine either, even my S2 doesn't do that.

All rooted, was easy! What root enabled apps should I get? Only have six axis with my ps3 controller .

AdAway, its awesome at removing all ads from inside programs and webpages. I forget the difference it makes until I forget to enable after a new flash.

If you get a custom kernel installed, you can also overclock too. They run nicely at 1.5Ghz and the battery life seems fine too.

anyone seen replacement screens anywhere?

can the glass be separated from the screen. I've cracked the glass in the corner and the screens touch doesn't work no more. there is no ink marks or odd colours so.

any advice?

Picked one of these up today as was looking for a tablet and decided against the iPad as I have an iPhone and to me the iPhone is best in class at being a phone, but I want more functionality from a tablet computer and iOS doesn't cut it in that respect. I have owned numerous Samsung devices in the past (Galaxy S, S2 and Galaxy Note 10") and have always been dissapointed with Android (updates being delayed due to Samsung, the fact there were multiple email applications and built in apps seemed to have menus all over the place) but I have to say, I love the Nexus 7!

I wanted a tablet that doesn't cost the same as a entry level laptop (ie iPad or Galaxy 10" Note) but at the same time I wanted to be able to copy films to it wirelessly easily and without 3rd party software, etc. The Nexus does just what I want! I love it due to the following:

  • Price is spot on as it doesn't cost the same as a laptop
  • The screen is great and just the right size
  • Stock Android is FAR superior to TouchWiz! I have now realised that I have not liked Android due to each of my devices having TouchWiz involved! Stock Android is seriously great.
  • Updates direct from Google just like iOS - I turned the tablet on and it immediately updated - no more waiting for Samsung!
  • AirDroid for copying files is simply amazing - much better than iTunes and just what I wanted from the tablet for bedtime films, etc
  • Nexus Media Imported with a UTG cable is epic
  • Android 4.2 looks clean and much neater than TouchWiz
  • VLC Player (damn you Apple for removing it)
  • Google currents for screensaver at work

I could go on, but I returned the Galaxy Note 10 a couple of months back and wrote Android off as being an expensive gimmick, but this device has seriously impressed me. Less than half the price and updates direct from Google, with a much cleaner interface. I love it!

I own an iPhone 4S (have had every version apart from the 5 as I don't see it as worth an upgrade). I also own a Lumia 920 Windows Mobile 8 device, and I have to say that the Nexus 7 is contender for best of the bunch. If it wasnt for the fact I use the iPhone for iMessage for people back home and Facetime quite a lot, I would be tempted to look at the Nexus 4!

Providing it doesn't break the rules can anyone link me to a USB OTG cable that fits and works properly?

I've heard stories about lots of the £1 specials from china not fitting properly.

If you don't mind spending about £8 you could always go go for a Genuine Samsung one (Model No: ET-R205UBEGSTD).

Available from the rain forest store, and elsewhere also.
