Picked one of these up today as was looking for a tablet and decided against the iPad as I have an iPhone and to me the iPhone is best in class at being a phone, but I want more functionality from a tablet computer and iOS doesn't cut it in that respect. I have owned numerous Samsung devices in the past (Galaxy S, S2 and Galaxy Note 10") and have always been dissapointed with Android (updates being delayed due to Samsung, the fact there were multiple email applications and built in apps seemed to have menus all over the place) but I have to say, I love the Nexus 7!
I wanted a tablet that doesn't cost the same as a entry level laptop (ie iPad or Galaxy 10" Note) but at the same time I wanted to be able to copy films to it wirelessly easily and without 3rd party software, etc. The Nexus does just what I want! I love it due to the following:
- Price is spot on as it doesn't cost the same as a laptop
- The screen is great and just the right size
- Stock Android is FAR superior to TouchWiz! I have now realised that I have not liked Android due to each of my devices having TouchWiz involved! Stock Android is seriously great.
- Updates direct from Google just like iOS - I turned the tablet on and it immediately updated - no more waiting for Samsung!
- AirDroid for copying files is simply amazing - much better than iTunes and just what I wanted from the tablet for bedtime films, etc
- Nexus Media Imported with a UTG cable is epic
- Android 4.2 looks clean and much neater than TouchWiz
- VLC Player (damn you Apple for removing it)
- Google currents for screensaver at work
I could go on, but I returned the Galaxy Note 10 a couple of months back and wrote Android off as being an expensive gimmick, but this device has seriously impressed me. Less than half the price and updates direct from Google, with a much cleaner interface. I love it!
I own an iPhone 4S (have had every version apart from the 5 as I don't see it as worth an upgrade). I also own a Lumia 920 Windows Mobile 8 device, and I have to say that the Nexus 7 is contender for best of the bunch. If it wasnt for the fact I use the iPhone for iMessage for people back home and Facetime quite a lot, I would be tempted to look at the Nexus 4!
