lower benefits for Northerners and longer school days

Very much this.

So that leaves housing and groceries.
Housing is a seperate benefit so thats out of the equation.
Food prices are so simmler is it worth the extra cost to the goverment to keep things analysed?
There has been no call for it before so why now?

They don't want the wealthy South subsidising the North.

They despise it.

There have been suggestions like this for decades.

While I don't agree with your political views, what I will agree on - is in the eyes of this government anything outside the m25 is scum.

No its not

Go look on the british gas website, Its tarrif dependant not county dependant.
a lot of the fuel is more expencive up north or similarly priced. Depending where you shop and what you buy the price of food is also the same/very simmlar.

Its the price of "non essentials" that differs and should not be taken into account for benefit purposes.

Nope, food is definitely cheaper outside London, that is general staples... I don't have an opinion on the others because I don't have comparisons.

and the award for worst troll ever goes to .......... TRNC

Actually I think Locky wins with the OP...

I see this has decended into a north/south hate-in.

Don't you just love the unifying strength Tory and Labour policy has on Britain?

Better together... my ****.

/about turns out of thread

I agree, there seems to be three different "nations" in one country at the moment. The South East, the Rest of England and Scotland*

*Discounting Wales and NI for the moment!

It's means exactly what is says, when the price of the job reaches a point it's not worth doing it will reach the lowest price point, on the flip side of that when you can't get someone to do the job the pay will increase till the positions are filled.

Providing tax credits etc to plug the gap distorts the market, it's bad for the long term, unless your goal is to make the market uncompetitive and push jobs abroad.

Minimum wage is not the problem, the cost of housing (purchasing and renting) is the problem.

How can a person doing a menial job for Minimum wage afford to home themselves when a two bedroom house costs more than they earn to rent? Let alone purchase (speaking for the SE).

The rampant rise in house values and rents are the cause of a lot of this countries problems, the housing market should have been allowed to crash and normalise like in the states. The problem has already been mentioned here with the huge amount of benefits being paid to people who WORK for simple housing rental.

£180 every 2 weeks cash

Haha, £180?

£112.50 for Under 25s
£142 for 25 and over

Why being 18-24 means getting over 20% less I have no idea, but there you go.

Because the market will correct itself, the min wage pushes prices upwards, makes jobs pay more than they are worth and likely leads to unemployment.

Bull****. Companies would use it to take advantage of people like they do with work placements and trainee programs.

How do you suggest people survive on less than minimum wage? Working 40 hours a week even at the current minimum only leaves you with £217 per week after taxes.

For example, a small 2 bedroom maisonette in Brighton costs £950 a month to rent.

The minimum wages prices the low paid out of work and increases the benefits bill.

Nobody would work for less than minimum wage, it isn't viable.

Gas and elec prices are not only Tariff dependant, they ARE regonalised.

They don't really, may differ marginally but it's also colder and darker so they require more :p

Pick a random northern postcode, then a random southern. Enter same details for both and i'm certain the northern one will come out cheaper.

Just did that and the Northern one was a whole £3 more per year.

What fantastic input into the thread, have a cookie...

Well I have had several other posts in this thread already, much longer...

On the other hand your OP was essentially a link and run, with just

Tory Tofs at it again.

Wow, very constructive. At least we know where you stand. The opposite side to anything the Conservatives propose or suggest... If they recommend everyone keep breathing to stay alive would you disagree and hold your breath?

Anyway, considering the most important line is...

Other suggestions include

We could just be including one single person suggesting varying benefits depending on region. Don't get fact get in the way of a good bitch though!

Always has been, it's just becoming more obvious in other areas as times become more desperate.

Things are now pretty desperate.

We will see more like this as the UK economy continues to stall in its market correction, but if it does get to this sort of situation where the benefit system is being cut open entirely along predetermined prejudices as it has then ignoring the Independence referendum I do not see a bright future for this nation, United.

I 100% agree that house prices should have been allowed to crash and the cost of rent with it, many would be in negative equity but it would give others a chance to get on to the property market and leave money in their pockets to spend on other things.

I don't know about the problems in the SE as I stay in Scotland, the value of property has no effect on me but my friends are still finding it hard to purchase a house.

Get rid of minimum wage and abolish benefits all together tbh!

looooooooooool, the minimum wage is not even a living wage:confused: and you want less.

So you pay tax for how many number of years, then get chucked on the scrap heap for whatever reason, would you not feel angry that there would be no benefits to help you get through a bad patch.
