I had an off last night, pulling out of a side road. Can't say for sure exactly what happened but the back wheel went out from underneath me as I applied full power while still turning and I went straight down. Couldn't see any ice, it wasn't particularly damp and the drain cover wasn't where it happened. I think it might have been a pedal strike but it normally just chips the ground rather than make the whole bike slide from underneath me.

Sore wrist today so I drove in, which took frickin 2 hours instead of 40 minutes. Not my week :(

It's also hard to get your feet out of toeclips when you're lying on your side about to get run over.

So take it easy folks, because it's slippery out there.

Hmm it'll be quite dull I think. Not like steel or Ti where you can polish it.

Also unless it's a really high quality frame you'll see the welds which will be pretty ugly.

Are you sure you want to do this? :p

Oh no, just had a look on google. Seems like it can be done, and also look pretty good!

haha :D i googled before i thought of it.. ;D it can look just needs some polishing up! won't look as good as the Ti frame but hey.. i won't be 1k either :D

and the shop you recommended is 4 miles away from me.. ill email them and see what they say :)

they do glass bead blasting and specialize in bike frames.. might be my little summer project

I'm still waiting for my first off. With the back roads the way they are at the moment, it won't take long.

Glad it wasn't that bad. A guy at work here broke collarbone with a simple off on ice :(

I've not had an off yet (bar getting knocked off years ago) thankfully despite commuting all year round.

I have just been to pick my bike up from the LBS. My back wheel was out of true; probably from climbing that hill last week. I'm guessing having all my weight on the back wheel and grinding up the steep bits took its toll.

Apparently the nipples are a bit corroded too from all the water/salt. New wheels time when it picks up weather wise so I'm not too fussed.

Which shop do you use? I took my old MTB to Whittles on the Atherleigh road a while back, but they've gone out of business. There's one opposite Tesco, which I know of. Walt swears by Geoff Smith's in Bolton, but apparently he's always busy in there, and will hardly give you the time of day unless you've already spent a fortune in there.

I use Cyclehouse in Warrington. It's not far from my work so it's handy to drop it in in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon.

Get yourself a spoke key. There are lots of online guides and it's really simple to tweak a wheel :)

I've got one. I've got a truing stand too but I'm just lazy most of the time. I don't mind too much messing about with the front one from time to time but I cba doing my rear wheel.

Anyone ever had something like this happen before?

Was going for a segment sprinting up a hill and noticed some strange ghost shifting when I slowed at the top  broken chain while sprinting for it could have been rather painful!

Shimano 105 chain, only about 2 months old too.

I have only ever broken 1 chain. It was also a 105, but i think there must have been some fault with it because it had only done 40-50 miles.

The chain on my Trek has looked like that for months on every link and it shift like ****. I need to get round to changing it but I loathe spending money on the Trek.
