Right at the moment I have a 1tb green that I use for my media and share round the house but its getting full.. So I was wondering is there any software that will see 2 hdds as 1, so when the 1st hdd gets full the new empty one takes over?

I would use raid 0 but if 1 hdd fails, your screwed.

I don't think there is a solution to making one logical storage space that doesn't split the data between the two drives.

It would be very useful if it did rather than having to have 2 different places for storage locations.

Maybe try something like, for films put all films before 2005 on one HDD and all after on another. That kind of thing might make it easier if you can't find a solution?

Ummm, I was going to get a 2-3tb hdd and just transfer everything over from my 1tb hdd. But I thought I ask you guys if there was anyway to extend 1hdd to another without looking through 2 hdds.

You can mount an ntfs partition onto a path of another drive rather than as a new drive letter. Doing this doesn't spread the data across the disks in the way that you're looking for but its probably the nearest and easiest solution.

Probably a better option anyway as what is being asked for (completely filling a mechanical drive before moving on to another one) isn't ideal for a couple of reasons:

1) Likely to result in unresolvable fragmentation hence worse performance
2) Means there is no space for any files that may be automatically created there (log files, thumbnails etc)

What about JBOD? Doesnt this join hdds together, and if so do I need a JBOD controller card, or can my motherboard sata ports do this with software?
