What do you do when your bored at work?

They've unrestricted facebook at the offices I'm based at. Not that I frequent on the website when sat in the office but I can't help but think it probably wasn't a smart move.

There are actually multiple levels in severity of dyslexia, it effects people differently.
So I think it is quite ignorant to say just because it effected you one way, it will effect all others in the same fashion.

OK you have dyslexia, well use the handy spell checker before clicking post reply. I am registered blind so my posts look awful until Ive been through and spell checked them. Just spend 5 extra seconds using spell checker.
Surely you can see the red squiggly lines under words spelt incorrectly? :)

Dyslexia doesn't exist. Your and your daughter are just stupid and they made up a fake test to make you feel better about yourself.

(This is the topic that people are ***** to each other for no reason, right?)

Tad mean dude, just a tad! :(

People implying they work their hours with no distractions, time waste or boredom make me laugh. No one can work solidly for a full work week every week. They're just better at hiding their procrastination. Your boss isn't reading this thread, you can be honest.

My last 10 hour shift ended up being over 12 hours and I barely had time to sit down and eat a sandwich let alone procrastinate.

I work from 0800 to 1700, Monday to Friday. We have 30 minute tea breaks at 1000 and 1500 and a 1 hour lunch break.

For the 7 hours that I'm not taking lunch or on a break, I'm doing what I'm paid to do tyvm.

Well I am in nursing and I can assure you I have no time to be bored.
People like you are the lazy and time wasting people that make eveyone elses job 10x harder

Automating tasks (via coding/model building) & multitasking often allows you to do more work than you are assigned & well above the average for the team (while still having wasted time bored) - it also depends on the nature of the work (If I kick off 17 large queries I can't really do anything until they are finished).

Besides, it's about working smart not hard.

+1 - I always work smart not hard :D

If I can script something that takes as long to script and test as doing it manually, I will go via the script route just because it's less boring to me.

I often save time with scripts though, and I have a lot of them pulling down info for me. I see scripts/automation as front loading the work, you put the effort in at the start and then later it pays dividends.

I usually save this kind of task for when I've done all of my other work though.

Today at work I was pretty bored so decided to play with our hp touch smarts. I felt so proud with the result.

So my question is what do you do at work when you're bored as hell?

Normally I just browse the OCUK forums.

I've learnt that if I'm bored at work, then I try and do something productive. Examples include organising inbox, help someone, fix something.

If this persists, then I'm probably re-doing my CV and looking for another job.

Office table tennis, use one of the conference rooms, whose table is about the right size, put the net over and done!

The good thing about our new office is that there is now plenty of space at each end of the table for "arm swing-age".

I'm not going to bite but just to say you are very lucky if you have time to mess about.

No, having excess time at work is very unlucky actually. There have been studies done which show that people who are underworked tend to be more miserable and are more likely to suffer depression and stress-related illness than those who are overworked. Of course the ideal is to have an optimal amount of work to do, but the world is rarely that kind.

Speaking for myself, I'd rather be overworked than underworked. Days when I've had loads to do, I've come out of it feeling exhilarated. Days when I've been bored out of my skull, I've come out of it feeling drained and despondent.

I'd agree with that wholeheartedly, I'd much rather be overworked than underworked. There is nothing worse than being underworked and bored. Such is the way of consultancy sometimes, but it can drag if you aren't busy.

I don't have time to do much else other than work at work. Have a certain amount of calls per day to get too, if I stop, I get home later.

Doing eleven to twelve hours a day at the minute though, it is too much to be driving all that time, only breaks are to get out and actually do the work.

Not enjoying :(

Dockyard time is as follows -

1 hour:

Rinse and repeat.
