The Rangers Newgens

Got took over by a tycoon just before the end of the 1st season I think it was, which was annoying a way but I couldn't be bothered starting a new season. I didn't actually realise that there would be an actual transfer embargo so after half the team left because I didn't offer them new contracts and not being able to sign anyone over 17 I was in a bit of a pickle. Luckily because of the tycoon I got quite a sizeable transfer budget which at first seemed pretty useless but I was able to extend the scouting range and I got a ton of scouts in. The players with the * next to are players I got before the start of the 2nd season in Second Division, players with # next to are ones I got in my 3rd season in First Division, but these all make up my current 1st team. As pingwing said before I think the training facilities have a massive impact on player development and because most of these players have played ~25 odd matches for the past 'x' seasons some of the progress has been just stupid. I first got Tom King (Palace), Will Hughes (Derby) and Luke Shaw (Milwall) in as they were the best in terms of current and potential non-newgens that I could find that were under 17 and would come to me. All three before the start of the third season, and here is how they are now. By the way Hughes and King are not in my 1st team now, they play in a secondary rotation team. I haven't bothered with tutoring with any of the newgens, only these three lads because I haven't actually had any older players to tutor with!

And yes screenshots are weird res as I play windowed half the screen.

First CL Qualifying phase game against some random team from Estonia with my 2nd team so some names you won't have seen. ;) Carlson had to come on for someone who got injured and Paulinho started for someone who's away on Int. duty.

The Rangers Newgens

The Finn and the Austrian

I'm having a slight issue whereby the mental attributes of all regens in my save are all slightly lacking. There is only one generated player with a 20 for creativity in the entire game!

I'm struggling full-stop with transfers and finding decent signings! How do you do it? What do you look for?

I'm playing as Bournemouth, and we are in League 1, but I am seriously lacking in the transfer and wage department. I have about £20k transfer and £3k to wages unused. I need a good striker desperately. I am trawling the free transfers. I can see a Blackpool player who is very unhappy and 'free transfer' listed but he is not appearing in the list! Nor can I sign him up. Still, he would demand too much per week for my humble team. So I need some of Azza's talent!

Ah well strikers need a couple of key things, finishing, first touch, composure and maybe pace (if you can afford it). Other good things to look for are work rate and positioning but they are secondary.

In L1 you should be able to get someone reasonable on 3k a week... Are you searching with the "filter unrealistic targets" thing on? That tends to take reputation far to seriously and can take away decent targets who are a bit desperate.

In L1 really you should look to loan a striker for a season long loan though, better chance of some good stats that need game time to progress, I would search for listed for loan players (again unrealistic things turned off and scout for a while, maybe filter by current wage too as some kids land massive wages that you might be expected to pay some of) as you should be able to come across who you need to go forward.

Make sure you have plenty of scouts with decent scouting stats, and set them to find talent with potential ability as superb (4 stars) or very good and max age of 21. You can either have them as just finding new talent so then they will just search through the countries available or you can set the countries yourself. I do the latter and choose the obvious countries, so Spain, Italy, France (newgen heaven), Germany, Brazil, Argentina, England, Ukraine. And then places like Croatia, Mexico, Nordic places like Denmark, Finland.

Obviously if you have more countries and leagues loading you'll get more newgens, I've only got England, Germany, Italy, Scotland and Spain loaded. What you can do if you want to be sneaky is load up extra leagues (before the time they load) and then set your scouts to search them and you'll get a whole load more available. I might make another save and do that an holiday now to see what it brings up.

Any way, there are certain dates when they appear in the game as in you get a new youth intake, most EU countries are around the same date I think, probably similar dates as '12 & '11 but I just keep scouts in one country all year long usually. But once you have your list by 'x' scout for France say, then just filter by position and just look at the vital stats for the position, along with their determination. Some players might not have a high(ish) stat in say finishing & first touch for a striker, but he might naturally have a decent determination, technique, off the ball, dribbling and quickess attributes so don't let that put you off as you can always focus their training on physical attributes to give them an increase and mental stats increase on their own if players are given plenty of game time.

Here are Rincon's vital mental stats for a striker and how they've increased.

Composure 9 to 16 (probably increase 1 or 2 more before he's fully developed I reckon)
Anticipation 12 to 17
Determination 14 to 18 (already quite high to begin with so you know he'll work hard in training, and det is good for when players are being tutored by another player)
Off the Ball 16 to 18

95 starts he's made since I signed him excluding this season.

Players who are at 'big' clubs will be hard to buy if you're not a top division club I find, and because they're a 'big' club they will know they can be a good player so they'll be less likely to sell, but if you can find ones that are particularly young especially ones you find right away from the youth intake it can be easier to snap them up.

The Finnish lad Carlson I got for £500k from Jaro, Rincon I got for £950k from Auxerre, I've just got a leftback from Internacional for £700k, I have a Spanish striker who I got from Gramenet (Second Division) for £1m, who is immense I'll post a screenshot in a bit.

Attribute progression

The Dane, Lindlbauer I got for £7m but that was in the summer of my 3rd season and he's already been in the game for 2 seasons. Paulinho was £4m but he'd been in the game 2 seasons as well. The goalkeeper Kurtovic I got for £2.5m and he'd been in the game 2 seasons as well.

Obviously players may not develop as quickly at certain clubs because of training facilities and staff etc, and the amount of games you have them play.

Thanks to both of you!

I think I'll have to follow Pingwing's advice initially. Although I have some decent scouts for my team's ability (I've got 7 now with half decent judging abilities) I am not allowed to scout worldwide or even Europe due to scouting range limitations. I can't get round this either :( I might have a play and see what my guys can find locally though.

Apparently I've got a lowly 9% world knowledge! Painful eh?

So I think maybe loans are the best idea at present. Also, as Azza points out, my training facilities are just adequate too.

Urm :D

Great first half of the season, didn't make many christmas signings, tailed off horribly, shouted at everyone and picked it up a bit to finish 11th.

Happy with 11th, Lucas Paizon was really good every so often, David Silva was rubbish (past it), my Welsh regen striker needs a back up, got to 15 goals then couldn't get many more sadly. Got a few good players on the way in, just need another LB, CB and a right winger to compete a bit more next year (whilst I wait for EVERYTHING to be upgraded at the club with a years prem money)

Has anyone got any links to updated badges & kits? :)

I got a kit pack, logo pack and a MASSIVE face pack that weighs in at about 5Gb...

Just found a site called Sortitoutsi for badges, kits etc

Seem to have a decent range http://sortitoutsi.net/downloads/category/86/football-manager-2013-graphics

Bam! Though I used my badges from last year as they are all shiny and covered everywhere in the world. Not sure which one but one of the kit links is really good, has a kits right down to BBS/BSN

Ok - i know this is FM13 thread but still playing FM12.

1st season with random start and got Oldham in League 1. £0 transfer budget and a slim squad. A few good loan signings helped me.

Anyway - board expected mid table, but got off to a good start and kept things going. Ended up with just about the perfect season.

Won the Johnson Paint trophy and won the league by 5 points!!

Mainly helped by Shefki Kuqi - an amazing season! Played FM for years but never seen a single season like this!

80 goals in 55 appearances, 63 goals in 43 app in the league!!! 19 Man of the matches and 8.01 for the season.

Only downside is he wants triple his wages for next season!!!

Bring on the Championship!

45k p/w wage budget (up from 26k) and 1.13 million to spend from the board for next season!!

Edit - Kuqi DOESN'T win player of the year!!! Some muppet with 45 app/19 goals and 7.62 average wins it - what a joke.

I did win manager of year for Div 1 mind you!!

He's 31. He's not past it! Who are you? Arsene Wenger? ;)

I don't have FM13 so I guess it must be screwed. There is no way this would have happened in previous versions.

Made it happen plenty of times in previous versions :p

In fact it was more common in FM 10 and before than today..

He was past it though, seriously past it. Released him at the end of the year as he was as about as useful as a dead cat.

I tend to phase players out about ~32/33. I very rarely offer players contracts after that unless they can still offer something in terms of tutoring / playercoaching and are cheap.

What happened to the old save?

Second season in the prem and I have to focus on everyone under 25 to get a chance of doing well this year sadly.
