***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

OMGZ MY DEC9TH ORDER HAS FINALLY SHIPPED!!!

What?

I ordered mine 4th Dec and neither have shipped.

My PA called Google on Tuesday and they told her "stock is being allocated to your shipment" or words to that effect.

nope its like having a pie shaped light switch next to a normal light switch

are you blind?

they have removed the HUGE button bar at the bottom and replaced it with a pop up version.

this is perfect, it gives you much more screen space, stops your screen from "burn in" from constantly having a black bar at the bottom, yet you do not lose any features, some users have complained of "burn in" before you say it is impossible on an lcd.

another question, do you even have this phone? because a lot of your negative comments on it sound like jealousy

also is there a similar mod for the black bar at the top of the screen? i would prefer that became a part of the drag down menu or clear instead of a black bar

Status bar is there you just need to swipe to the very top of the screen to access it. The PA team have said there is more to be added to it yet! It is part of the PIE now.

The Nexus 4 won't get burn in like the Galaxy Nexus ;)

LCD vs AMOLED

everyone seems to be using the "franco" kernel, but there seems to be no info on what it actually does in the post on xda? anyone know the pro's and cons?

im going to flash PA and Franco, I assume there will be no conflict. Been using the device as stock since launch (i got 2 in the first batch available), but just unlocked and rooted 10 minutes ago using the toolkit.

looking forward to having more screen real estate

So for those who got their shipping email are you expecting them Monday?

I assume so, unless the shipping that Google use is a Saturday delivery?

TNT site says :

70556xxxxx 003xxxxx HARROW 18 Jan 2013 Out for delivery between the hours of 09:00 - 18:00

But no idea if that is accurate.

Edit: TNT say it is due to be delivered Monday.

Franco has a change log in his post, what he does is removed a lot of the wake locks around the modem which was killing the battery life for everyone. He also does a lot of smart things when it comes to turn off cores when there not in use and so on to reduce battery drain and heat. It some really good work and I have noticed on the latest build my phone never gets hot, even gaming its still relatively cool to warm compared to before.

The 2 work together fine and is what a few here use including me.

I'm in complete 2 minds, I've been using the HOX since day 1, and managed to get the Nexus 4 8GB on day 1 on second batch, been using the N4 and love it to bits. 8GB for me is probably enough as most the stuff on my HOX are just photos and music, but I can use a PMP for my music and all photo's are on DropBox anyway.

2 minds which one to keep both are excellent phones. The value of the HOX is dropping everyday so may be wise to sell up now and keep the 8GB N4 and PMP combo until next set of phones and see what they offer.

PA is just fantastic, along with Faux kernel getting good results on the battery probably slightly better than the HOX.

Although HOX has the better camera without a doubt but don't take that many photos in poor conditions.

Hmmm, going to have to think this over.

just picked one of these up yesterday!
what are the best cases for it and where to get them?

ebay and s-line is what i use, i have bought a few others but s-line works and costs a mere £1.50-£2.50, it offers full protection, which a lot of cases don't the top and bottom are exposed or buttons are exposed, etc.

get a coloured one if you want to be able to see the glitter effect or a clear one. avoid white (gets very dirty easily). get black for simplicity.

sell the HOX, the nexus 4 is guaranteed future updates, whereas the hox wont get any more now, unless its a HOX+, although the hox has better screen and camera, the nexus 4 has better ROM's, kernels and developer support. it will also be supported for years to come, meaning its value shouldn't really decrease as much as the HOX will over time, in fact this device will probably still be worth over £200 in 6 months time, since other companies are charging around £300-£400 for it
