*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Getting happier with this thing by the minute. Managed to get movies streaming from my NAS now over 3G. Sadly not been able to do it direct but I have got Remote Potato Server running on my HTPC and that then allows me to access it with the Remote Media Center app, I browse to the share and then use BSPlayer free to player any of my hd content.

I just use WOL to wake the HTPC when I need to access it.

Used one of these for the first time today, I like it. Was just narrow enough to hold comfortably with one hand, and the screen size makes text very comfortable to read.

Is the N7 any good with intensive games like NFS Most Wanted, GTA or does it lag? Jelly Bean was silky smooth as expected, I'm gonna buy one soon for e-books and Sky Go.

I don't want to root mine as I use Sky Go.

If I do choose to root it, is there a quick on off function to the root so that I can switch it off when I want to watch Sky Go?

At the moment (and it's been like this for the past few months) there is no workaround. If you root, you lose Sky Go.

I thought it required a data connection though to work, mine didn't work when outside?!

Maybe a data connection is only required if it is downloading maps? With CoPilot, the maps are downloaded and stored on the phone so only the GPS function is required.

I just bought one and its really good. Shame the SkyGo app is such poor quality right now but hopefully they will improve that. Downloading both GTA's and see if they run well on it. Not sure about the battery - mine says 1 hour but isn't it supposed to last for 8?

Are you giving Sky Go a minute or so to buffer? On startup it's blocky but it should sort itself out in a 10-20 seconds, it's very clear on my PC and on my brothers S3.

Mine will last 8 hours easily one a full charge whilst browsing and light usage, if I want to play anything intensive (GTA etc) then a couple of hours maximum, although to be fair I've always got several things open so that's probably not the best way to judge it :D

Is it worth going for the 3G version? Anyone have it?

I missed out on a cracker of a payg SIM last month from T-mobile. You top up the sim with £10 and get 12 months free internet at 500mb per month, no more top ups required. That offer has now gone, and they want £20 for 6 months internet.

Yeah mine probably lasts that long I read the battery thing wrong it was saying how long since the last charge not how much battery left. Just played GTA for an hour and still on 80% so very impressive.:)

How did GTA run? I've got my Note II for games but just curious really.

Ewaf - poetic slimline case looks nice! How much did you pay?

Hi guys, I've decided to go for a Nexus 7 myself and will be picking one up next week.
Aside from the price drop on the 32gb version, is there anything else to watch out for?
New hardware revisions etc
I've read about the backlight issues on a few of them and am just curious if this is on older models only?

I got mine a few days ago. Loving it.

I need a case (something similiar to a ipad stand/cover one will do)

Any suggestions?

Quite well, playable at least. Vice City ran better than III and looked much nicer as well. There are a lot of reviews about GTA3 saying that sound is missing, that is because you have to let it download additional files. You can try and run it before the download completes and it will run without sound.

I'm currently on the lookout for a cheap data/internet only SIM. I'm gonna order the 3G 32GB version with the black poetic slimline case. :)

I am already with Vodafone, so I went for a rolling data only contract at £5 per month (inc. VAT) for 500 MB.

Probably not the cheapest option available, but it was a quick and easy solution.

They did try and charge me £5 for sending me the SIM, but refunded me £10 when I queried it! :)
