Bad meetings at work

Your post reads like the meetings of my nightmares! lots of people talking in acronyms about something none of them fully understand all trying to resolve a really simple issue. Wasting time money and energy on something that shouldn't even require a meeting in the first place!

Welcome to ITIL.

I was drawn in by the thread title.

But got lost and bored when you did not explain what any of your acronyms meant. IIRC, ANBGTFT, TBH.

More on topic, yes ive had plenty of fierce meetings, where people volunteer to quit the company as things get so heated. Awkward to see.

I once had a meeting and they wanted me to MD their GPCR for 50ns and I was like "okay, when do you need it". And they were all like "Tuesday" and I was like "25ns per day, not including setup? GTFO noob".

True story.

Only meetings we have in dockyard is H&S (LOL) and lay offs :D

Normally they'll say we need to lose x amount. If you get handed a white envelope within the next few days, you're outta there til work picks up again. Which is between a few weeks and a few months normally.

Luckily HMS Ocean is in for refit, so should be 2 years work minimum.

Apologies, I thought being a computer forum ITIL would be a household name:p

I know it's not the right attitude giving up but I'm just a contractor and it's not my place to be changing things really, I put the suggestions across. The issue is that the wrong audience were in the meeting, a service delivery manager would have been on the same page but were no shows.

I'd have simply said "you're paying for my time and I'm not wasting any more of your money until a manager shows his face in here", or I'd have asked where one was and gone and told him he was needed in the meeting.

I'd also be writing to whoever is in charge over all and explain the issues you've had at that location to make sure you don't get any issues come back at you.

I'm the only person on my team in Europe so I'm often on conference calls, I find it so hard to pay attention without being face to face or at least having a Webex to look at. Conference calls suck!

My worst meeting is still the first meeting I attended on my own with a client when I started my current job, about 5 years ago.

I was really nervous, the guy comes out and I'm looking him dead in the eye and say "Nice to meet you", whilst holding out my hand for a handshake. There was an awkward silence and I was wondering why he was leaving me hanging. I looked down and he didn't have an arm!

Indeed. Wouldn't even bother trying to pile services into one.

Utter nonsense. A cmdb is perfectly suited for tracking services and thier relationships.

But I agree - a password change wouldn't be a CI - it's a service request.
