lol which wheels are those? Mine and my bike's combined weight is well over 100kg. That's before I even stick my clothes, shoes and backpack on.

Also, is anything planned for a ride this weekend Pete? I'll be free this Sat. See if the lads fancy doing something. Maybe the rake if you're up for it.

these! cheap as hell not surprised really, hopefully the new wheels will be better.. but i need a new cassette too! :/

Managed to put in 75 miles yesterday, was a really good ride, we bumped into a sportive that was going on and joined in for half the route, someone was taking photos half way round, be nice to be able to find out who that was and were to buy from, anyway, the problem i had was at about 40miles i started to cramp up really badly in my legs, it got worse and worse and ended up spinning the last 5 miles. Anyone know what part of my diet and on bike nutrition needs to be looked at to stop this happening?

Lack of salt isn't it?

I suffered with cramps at night following over 90 minutes on the bike. Started using High 5 Zero tablets with my water, problem gone.

Do you reckon either of those wheels would do me any good? The crappy ones that shipped with my bike need truing after every decent climb. I'm not majorly fussed about weight (within reason) but so long as they can take my 90kg+ on a bumpy commute and the back one can take the abuse of a climb then I'm happy.

I'm guessing at 36 spoke they'd do the job better than the 24f/32r set that came with my CX bike but a 2nd opinion wouldn't hurt.

a gentleman of your more solid mass has open pro written all over him

my gigantor mate, 6ft 6 and easily 120kg rides open pros on dura ace hubs. Claims anything else is like a wet noodle.

'solid mass' :D

It's the squishy mass that's the problem but cheers for the tip. I might pick up a pair of those 36h open pro ones then.

I'm hurting after that 90mile ride yesterday. That wind... It was like riding with a 10kg plate on my back. At times it was easier climbing a hill that shielded me from the wind then it was on the flat leading up to it.

Dont know about those rims. Your existing cassette may still be ok

there are some reviews and people say they are "bombproof" i guess they would work fine its the hubs that im worried about the most but 105's should do the job.

its skipping and i'm not sure why :/ and it makes a lot of clicking noise when peddling and when freewheeling its even worse

Link? How are they for flex etc? I'm only 70ish kgs so shouldn't be too bad I suppose, I'm speccing my new build for summer as we speak. :D

Have you weighed them yourself to verify the weight?
Yup the 1390g weight was on my scales with rim tape removed.

They even reduce the invoice price so I didnt have to pay any import duty: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/700C-27mm...Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item337c2d5757

They're pretty stiff as I went for 27mm kinlin rim, if you actually don't mind a slight bit of flex at 70kg you might get away with these bad boys, which use a 20mm kinlin rim (1280g!?!?): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/22mm-clin...Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4abe414ef5

Wow, 1280g is immense. I might settle for 1390g and a bit more stiffness though - thanks, they look great and I've added them to my watchlist. My goal is to put together a sub 7kg bike for less than a grand.

Did Downward Spiral on the turbo today... ouch.

My new light (the usually eBay CREE T6 jobby) finally arrived so I'll be able to see now on unlit country lanes, handy with another trip to deepest darkest Watford this week.

I'd be interested to know how you got on with this light. I am on the brink of getting one and I am sick of the turbo and waiting for the lighter nights!!! Can you link which one you went for in the end. TYVM

I think we'll probably be out, yeah. I'll check if I bump into Walt anytime soon. I may only make it out for a couple of hours as the mrs is up to her eyes making wedding dresses so needs me looking after the kids! I'm going to make the most of her being busy in the evenings and do my cycling then. Ive got 4 days to get 83 miles done if I want to get the 200 miles badge on strava!

I swear I replied this this! But I cant see my post anywhere.

But anyway, I used to get cramping in my calves on medium - long rides. I then started taking Nuun tablets, followed by the High 5 ones. I've not really suffered with it since.

In that case make sure you get some ti skewers, I just got some for £11 on ebay, will save you 100grams.

I managed 6.8kg for a fraction over a grand, so thats easy doable soon as my carbon rims were more money and heavier.

I've gone a bit crazy and moved most of the bits over to my commuter and started my new super mega light bike :-)

I have this frame on order in matte (880g for a little over £300 is insane!): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FR-316-Fu...70718057754?pt=Road_Bikes&hash=item565084a51a

I have bought second hand but as good as new sram RED groupset, and I'm going to use these alloy clinchers I just got.

It's going to be knocking on the door of under 6kg, and probably wont be much over a grand again.. I got some right bargains on the RED kit I bought.

Has anyone experienced much sternum pain from cycling. Noticed after Saturday's ride that at night and the next day I had a bit of pain on the bone. Nothing major but some discomfort. My brother suggested my seat could do with getting raised an inch or so to help my posture and I' read somewhere a little about making sure your muscles are taking the upper body weight as opposed to the bones. I don't really get what it's talking about though.

I'm not looking for medical advice, just an explanation if it's my riding style that could cause this and how it could be fixed?

typing with one hand.
spent the morning in a&e > black ice > dislocated shoulder > agony

Ouch, were you amongst much traffic when you went down? Could imagine that would be pretty scary.

Thanks for all of that. I'm going for Force rather than Red unless I get some almighty bargains. That frame looks interesting - much nicer than the usual Chinese efforts. I was going to get a second hand PX frame but that looks pretty unbeatable for the price, and it's not like a second hand frame has a warranty anyway.

My only issue is they look a bit dull just in black and I'm not shameless enough to label it as something else!

I bought the cheapest one on there I could find: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300677445326?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Word of warning, the postage took ages (ordered beginning of December, arrived last week) but it turned up eventually. There are UK sellers on there but they are understandably more expensive. I wasn't convinced by the supplied mount so made a better one out of an old torch mount I had. I'll let you know how it performs but inital testing suggests BRIGHT.

Turning a corner and when i came round a car had stopped behind me, a lorry driver, car driver and pedestrian came to my aid.
I hit my head that hard on the floor that i know i wouldn't be here now if i wasn't wearing a helmet.
Fracture clinic tomorrow.

Browsing through local gumtree and spotted this Raleigh. Never seen a seatpost like this before. Almost looks like a stem? lol
