Supplements the debate/discussion thread

How did you get that to happen? I can't replicate it.

Sorted, thanks for the heads up. My code is GW3354 if anyone fancies using it :)

kree how do you keep popping up in here? Do you lift?

Hmm, not sure I'd say I lift, but I'm working towards being able to say I do.

Hah! I didn't read the whole article, nor am I afraid of low end coffee, unless it tastes bad...

lol ice, that page, lol. Have a real look, they sell an awful lot of what they say is 'better' for far too much money. Upgraded mould free coffee beans (IMPORTANT) i mean yeah my fresh tasty dry beans are all mouldy dammit. Brill example of making money off snakeoil, their super whey is on back order, dang-nabbit!

2KG of Butterscotch
2KG Lemon Shortcake
2KG Chocolate Mint Brownie came to...

Essentially buy two get third free

I think it's something wrong with the system whereby after following the referral link (used yours LiE) it somehow expected the cheapest item in my basket to be the 250g freebie and automatically applied 100% discount to it.

Can't complain :p

How did you manage to pull that off? Looking at placing an order and if I can get that to work, I might just use TPW :D

Have a read through the thread and you will see that everything mentioned is linked to an article. That particular thread has no bro-science...that's why it makes for interesting reading.

Here's a summary, including links to the articles:

I can’t see that at work but will look at it when I get home. The thing is as many articles as there are saying one thing, there are as many either making that particular research less of an impact or contradict it, or just show a different side to it.

A well put together argument for the oat. Good answer.

I’m glad you approve – I’m not a proponent or opponent of oats, but they’re just a decent good quality cheap form of nutrition.

The word "clean" is the issue. What is "clean"?
I've added plenty of fat to my body, when eating no junk food and eating "clean"...which in turn required me to enter into a long cutting phase.

That’s purely because you were eating more than your body was using. It’s got nothing to do with the fact it was healthy or not.

However on that note, why wouldn’t you choose to eat non-refined/processed foods, and healthy flavoursome foods?

When I say clean, I mean, minimise to remove alcohol, choose natural ingredients instead of highly processed and refined foods. i.e. cut out the fizzy drinks, crisps, sweets, ready meals, refined sugars, foods that contain more additional ingredients than the actual food product it is, white man-made starches (i.e. mass produced breads for example, and cakes), keep dairy to moderate levels etc.

However, ultimately, it’s about moderation and variation. Sure the odd bag of crisps, or take away pizza is not a problem – if you like that sort of stuff, you’ve got to treat yourself.

By clean I mean the following, eat more fish than red meat, but don’t cut out red meat completely, poultry, lots and lots of veg of different kinds, especially cruciferous veg, fruits, nuts & seeds, good fats as found in olive oil, oily fish, avocados etc…

My typical weekly diet sees me eating mackerel about 4 days a week, salmon and/or haddock once a week at least, chicken, pork, mince beef. Hundreds of grams of spinach, fresh tomatoes, curly kale, broccoli, carrots, green beans, pulses/beans, mushrooms, mixed salads, onions, etc… hundreds of grams of nuts and seeds, 2-3 avocados, peppers of all colours, apples, oranges, grapefruit and blueberries and bananas.

No cakes, no fizzy drinks, no “processed” foods. I generally and genuinely do not enjoy those sort of mass produced foods – it’s not about being a snob, but I just have a taste for freshly prepared foods.
However, I’m only eating about 2600-2800cals a day which is fine for me to stay as I am with my level of activity.

You can of course still lose weight/fat and so on eating lots of processed crap - but in my lifestyle choice, I'd rather eat foods which are as "pure" as possible - I don't always succeed, as it's expensive at times, and living in London, not always achievable, however, I still maintain in the majority of the time. :)

On a separate note, not everybody has the same aim. Some people want to be as lean as possible, at all times. Some people want to be great runners/cyclists. Some people want to be as strong as possible. Hence, I don't feel that there is a 1 diet fits all.
Without being rude, that’s just stating the obvious! :p However, that’s all about calorie control, and exercise undertaken and the type of exercise you undertake. And there’s no such thing as “diet” – it’s called a lifestyle. Diets are fads, and short term (myopic in my opinion) ways of achieving a temporary goal – you have to make it a lifestyle choice for it to be long term.

Also, lets not forget that some people find a particular diet, easier to handle, while another person finds a different diet easier to stick to. So, a diet which works for person1, doesn't necessarily work for person2.

Again, whilst true, it’s also down to how much the person wants to change – if a person doesn’t want to give up on high salt, refined/processed and cheap quality foods, they won’t. There’s no such thing as a “perfect” diet, as you say, not everyone can afford it, or owing to allergies or ignorance cannot stomach it. However, a lifestyle change is something everyone can do. I’d argue that there is a perfect lifestyle – but again that’s entirely objective so we’re not going to define it. I personally, feel the Mediterranean lifestyle is one I aspire for – relaxed, sunshine kissed foods, access to fresh produce, and a far less aggressive life than living in London with amazing weather! Oh how I miss the sunshine! :(

The science behind a Ketogenic diet is strong and technically should work for anybody wanting to shed body fat, while maintaining a high percentage of lean muscle.
Yes the science behind the Keto diet is sound – but again, if you want to make it a long term lifestyle change, go for it – however for most people this is untenable, and impractical. I don’t believe in short term fixes, I’d rather live by long term solutions. However, if you feel chopping and changing diets all the time works for you – go for it, but stability far outweighs radical changes. Admittedly it also depends on your goals – different weight training/exercise/sports goals require a bit of a shake up from time to time to get the best out of your body. However, that’s a different aspect to this discussion. :)

No longer works, but would not buy that brand of protein regardless. Those, Reflex and H&B whey use the absolute cheapest form of whey, can never remember it's name, begins with C (not concentrate), so no thanks Jeff

It's a fair shout to be honest DMAA is a pretty harsh stimulant and may well have helped push an already weakened heart over the edge.
Then again so does running 26miles in the heat but they're not going to mention that so they go for the supplement.

Pretty pathetic really, having a protein shake makes everybody look at you in the office like you're some sort of roid monster destroying his health yet running around for 40km in the heat is good for you and poses no risk at all. ohwait.

Same with the jacked scoop, she probably had a few more which obviously did no favors to a weak heart that went through hell in a silly physical challenge.

This really depends on your definition of 'silly physical challenge'

Frankly, raising money for a charity seems like quite a good reason to do a marathon. As for trying to be more competitive, I doubt anyone on here wouldn't push themselves to try and do their best.
