Supplements the debate/discussion thread

I can imagine mate, I really can.

Honestly, I think the banning of DMAA is a good thing. It does however make pre-WO supps largely useless now imo :p

I've been taking taurine, beta alanine, creatine, leucine and MCT oil before training and had some good results.

Taurine, AAKG, Citruline Mallate, Beta-Alanine and caffeine, should you need it, works just as well, if not better than pre-blended WO supps when I used to take them.

It's great doing your own because you know how much you're getting in each serving.

Being able to change the ratio's is handy too. Haven't used a pre work out in about 2 years now. Used to take me straight to pump town! and actually hinder my workouts.

My tendency to write long, boring posts about particular ingredients (or anything, for that matter), in full knowledge that nobody gives a ****.

Skillmister once posted a reference to that particular tendency and I responded in kind.

Not that it matters, anyway. :D

To be fair, neither do I :p And I always figured the pre-workout people were in the minority here?

Jack3d only worked so well 'cause I was high as a kite.

Ha, whenever I see a mrthingyx post in supps, I know it'll be a long post ending in "placeboLOL"

:D

I'll rearrange my posts thus...

boreboreborebore
TL;DR

Placeblolz :D

He doesn't believe in the fairy dust we all take ;)

I'll just claim I'm looking out for you bros and your wallets. :o :D :)

EDIT: Beaten by Skillmister... *chuckles* :)

I have actually changed my attitude towards pre-workout supps after thinking about. Stick with the safer more tried and tested powders.

L Ornithine Alpha Ketoglutarate - Performance booster

The last one Ornithine is THE single most powerfull supplement I have ever taken. Nothing has ever given me a strength boost like that stuff! I can only describe it as having Ronnie Coleman as an over zealous spotter :D Unbelieveable when it kicks in but it's a weird supplement. It only seems to work for pressing movements and does nothing for pulling movement... very hard to explain unless you have tried it. At one point I was Incline DB Pressing 65kg DB's on my own without a spotter using this. It's expensive though and you need to take high doses.

MP have this on offer, £8.69 for a 250g bag, so I've bought 2. That's £34.76 per kilo which is pretty much 50% off.

Chong what dosage would you recommend? 10-16g over 4 doses per day I've seen mentioned.

Off topic and maybe wrong thread but is it just me or does the UK not offer a great deal of low carb/GI/salt/sugar foods.

I remember when I was in OZ and the selection was unbelievable, seems the case in the States too.

Just little things like low salt seasoning which I see people go on about.

Only research I've seen on the effects of ornithine in humans had it at around 15g a serving once a day - this was the only dose the resulted in an increase in HGH. Otherwise you might as well just take Arginine.

However, I'll check tonight.

EDIT:
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0271531705802659 suggestes 170mg/kg bw
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20300016 does not have the doses listed...

TL;DR

Not placebo.

Yea that is the recommended amount on MP which puts me at about 13g a day. One does pre-workout, or over the day?

I'd say around 170mg per kg of bodyweight. Pre work out and before bed - and maybe post work out? Split it to 3x a day.

edit: lol - just saw habibibibibibi posted it already! :D

Take it every day I'd' have thought.
