I really need to start investigating the north east more. Live in Hartlepool, work in Middlesbrough, occasionally go to metro centre....have been to Durham once in all the time I can remember. Actually need to visit some new places.

Only been to Durham once? Newcastle city centre is well worth a visit, South Shields in the Summer ain't bad either, You need to get out more lol.

I know, it's bad. I went to Durham on a night out for a friends birthday last year and that's it. Apart from the time I got my passport done and I had to go to the passport office. But I've never been to go shopping or anything. And it's not a case of not getting out, more a case of not staying within this area.

I've been to Manchester and shopping in the Trafford centre more times than I have shopped in Newcastle city centre :p

Make it your mission to pop over Durham for the day when the weather is better, nice walk along the river, a visit to the cathedral and castle, grab something to eat in one of the bars. Nice place to spend a few hrs in summer. Newcastle is decent for a shopping trip or better for a night out. Easily worth the effort of driving :)

You won't get into the regulars without being a special first due to all the funding cuts/budget malarky. The Met are currently the only force which have restricted future intakes to Specials/PCSO's only, but Cleveland are following suit shortly as will the majority of forces.

People in the specials generally sort of know whether they want to join full time or not because they have the experience and have witnessed the bad with the good, whereas Joe Public often has different expectations of the job. I know someone who personally joined, hated the shift work, didn't like the job and left straight away, after having 200k spent on training and uniform etc.

Ok thanks

I went out there last year for a friends birthday, went to the Wetherspoons and Yates' then ended up in Love Shack for the rest of the night (working my way through the cocktail list while my friends were asleep in the corner).

Didn't go there :( Really popular place though, I'm always hearing about it.

We went in a few random pubs that I can't remember the names of though. Was a good night out, double the price compared to what I'm used to though :P

I ended up in the Slug and Lettuce.

Dead expensive in there. I paid 7.50 for 2x double vodka and redbulls.

Durham actually got some award not long ago for been one of the nicest scenery in UK. Can't remember what it was called though. If you have a walk down Durham river it's fantastic. Very quiet, very scenic. Plenty of hot spots to do rudies outside! Trust me.
