Would you bench Pepe Reina?

literally the most random Addition of caps lock and. Incomplete sentences.

glad we have Another thread about Specific goalkeepers...

Fergie sign him up, fergie fergie...

oh, I swear 3 weeks ago people were saying UTD should buy him.

Brad Jones?? Doni has sadly gone and I doubt more 18 year olds will help...

I saw him throw the game against latics, stick with him, he's a keeper that one.

To be fair I'm quite critical of Reina but I don't think there's much he could have done against that Aguero finish, it was just an unbelievable goal. I have teased a bit but that's just because people seem to pick on De Gea a lot when he hasn't done much wrong either. Hart makes a lot of errors as well, but like De Gea he makes up for it with his shot stopping and other qualities.

There aren't many goalkeepers that genuinely dominate the area and deal with crosses effectively, and even the ones that do often have weaknesses in other areas like reaction speed, agility and shot stopping ability (often because they are bigger/heavier and therefore slower guys).

It's swings and roundabouts really. There are probably 5 or so goalkeepers on the planet that have it all and they would command a very high pricetag. Some of them are also close to retirement.

Prior to yesterday, he'd been slowly getting back to his best since coming back from his hamstring injury but the 18 months prior to that were well below his best. I've seen people talk about the goalkeeper coaching situation not helping but I suspect it's more a case of complacency. Ever since he signed for us he's had absolutely no competition and as a result, no matter how badly he plays, he's still considerably better than any replacement.

Should a big offer come in then it wouldn't surprise me if the club gave him the option to go but I wouldn't actively look to replace him. I'd be looking to bring in a very good number 2 and/or a promising youngster.

As I've said before on here and else where, why would you drop your best keeper, who even having a bad game is better than the possible replacements?

sometimes players think they cannot be replaced, i am saying 2 or 3 games on the bench would surely make him better.

Why risk results? I could understand dropping Reina if Liverpool have a good keeper as a replacement, but they don't. Even when he's bad he's the best keeper at the club.

Reina might have cost them the three points (hate having to say that) but he's also won them a lot of points.

I am not denying Reina is liverpool best keeper, but somtimes lesson is needed to be tought, by droping him for hes own good, It will only make him stronger and more hangry. As for the jones he has to be to trusted with number one shirt as some stage, why not now to make competition.

I loved the 'the Jones' :D.

I just disagree, Jones isn't good enough to come in to a Premier League club that have aspirations of finishing in a European place, Reina is the best keeper and shouldn't be dropped.

While you mention motivating him to do better, it could crush his confidence and have the reverse effect.
