*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

My sister keeps asking me to get her one of these, just noticed the 16GB is back in stock, is it worth getting the 32GB for 30 quid more? I really rather not spend that much money though. She'll mainly use it for games I would imagine, rather than put loads of music and videos on it, but I don't know how much storage is needed for apps and stuff.

My wifi is there, but the logo is greyed out. What does this mean?!

I am not sure on this so don't quote me but when I am connected to my phone's wifi hotspot it only ever seems to be grey but when I connected to my home wifi it is blue. No idea of the difference between the two though.

Quality games have more than a gig these days.. would opt for 32gb

16gb will be fine.

The games that take up most space are mainly boys games ie gta 3. Need for speed. Batman. Spider man etc

I would just go for a 16 if you don't want to spend the extra. It is worth the extra money for a 32 tho

If she wants music there's youtube for that and for films make her a drop box account

I have a 16GB (bought before 32GB available) and get so frustrated running out of space. I have to choose which games/movies to have or not; and the system slow down when less than 3GB free is a nightmare. Go for 32GB to avoid regret later.

Grey simply means connected to network/wifi, blue means connected to the Google Servers (through the internet, obviously :) ) and able to sync accounts.

So after six weeks of careful ownership the speaker on my Nexus 7 has blown. It appears to be a common problem and I wouldn't mind so much but because I'd seen countless reports of this happening I've barely had the volume above 50% but last night I was watching Youtube on it when suddenly the sound started distorting all over the place.

Called Asus who issued a RMA reference without any fuss (as soon as I described the fault they admitted it was common) but then went on to say it could take 31 working days to fix it.

It sucks that something you've only owned for 6 weeks needs to be sent back for repair that including postage could take just as long as you've owned it to get it fixed.

When I had mine picked up for repair ASUS paid for collection and delivery. From issuing an RMA number to receiving it back was less than two weeks.

just a heads up for anyone that might be interested, the current build of xbmc for android found on this thread seems to run really well on the Nexus 7. I've had an 8GB mkv streaming over wifi with no issues, also seemed to mount and play a dvd iso without trouble as well.

There was no way I was going to RMA my six week old Nexus 7 to Asus for them to repair it and possibly wait weeks for it to be returned.

As a result I've just got back from the well known spicy food retailer where I purchased it from and after a short "debate" it's been exchanged on the spot.

A positive outcome.

I've had my Nexus 7 3g for less than 4 weeks, its been great but suddenly yesterday the touchscreen completely stopped responding. Tried restarting, soft reset etc, nothing worked. I can only access the device using OTG cable and USB mouse, everything else seems ok... no visible screen lift, screen clarity / colours ok, all my apps work etc.

Spoke to Google support, who suggested I try a factory reset. Still no success though! They're sending me a new device but hoping I can get this one fixed before replacing.

Any suggestions appreciated?

Really thinking of getting one of these - 32 GB WIFI + 3G -, in my basket waiting...or should I spend more and get a Samsung Galaxy Tab ?

I already own the 7" Tab from a couple of years ago, and had no probs.

Silly question in this thread ha ha

I've seen it asked a few times and this is better apart from storage.

I love mine. Does everything I need it to

I'm considering buying a Nexus 7, but as I already have a Samsung Galaxy IIS, I was wondering if there's any way to link the Nexus to my Samsung for mobile internet access?

It would just mean that I could just buy the 32GB WIFI version instead of the most expensive model.

I got my 16GB model on pre-order from the same place. The speaker has started making weird noises and may be on its way out. Given that it is less than a year old, I assume that I can take it back to the shop... Is this not right? Are they likely to replace or send off for repair? I'm hoping to get a 32GB as a replacement since they don't stock 16GB anymore!
