*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Guys, I am having trouble adding my Facebook account to Google calendar so that I get event invites and birthdays. Is there a way to do this please? In settings >>> add account, Facebook is not available, only Corporate, Google and Sky Go. Ideas most welcome as always.

I also use BT for tethering for internet as I can enable it all from the tablet (no need to find the phone/get it out of pockets or bags and turn it on), and I think the BT uses less battery than WiFi Hot Spot.

Do you just leave Bluetooth enabled on your phone all the time then? How do you find this impacts battery life?

Try logging out then back in and choose the option sync all. Think you must have chosen don't sync

I've read somewhere BT tether is slower so you don't get your full connection speed therefore it uses more battery because it takes longer to download.

I don't think that applys while just surfing

Have you installed the Facebook App?

BT achieves up to around 25MBit/s - which for 3G browsing is more than enough I'd have thought?

True. But if you have ever sent a file using bluetooth you never get anything near that speed. Wifi direct is really fast.

It's probably better at the moment but as 4g starts rolling out and what ever is next that guys theory will be true

My missus got fed up of me not being able to decide on a tablet purchase. So she got me the 32gb and official case for christmas. I did not think it would get much use, but it does, every day. :)

The official case with the flap is really getting on my nerves though. Any other cases that come highly recommended? Anyone bothering with screen protectors?

Oh no doubt wifi direct is a lot faster - I think it peaks at 250Mbits?

I've just always thought that BT is less battery heavy - however, happy to be told otherwise! :)

Was just something I read. But can understand the point it will save battery if it downloads faster but as said BT shouldn't bottle neck 3g but maybe in the future it will.

I normally just use wifi but that's only because I thought it might lose connection if I move about. I might give bluetooth ago

Sorry to be really simple but log out of Facebook? I have tried rebooting the N7 and have set sync on in Facebook but still can't see it in the account list in the calendar.

Just thought I would comment on the Poetic Slimline case.

Its very good. Seems well put together, is comfortable and doesn't add too much bulk to the Nexus 7. Magnets work well so you know should you drop it the screen will be protected.

I dropped mine in the poetic case, from the equivalent of about 2-3 feet. They didn't hold =[

+1 for the poetic slimline.

I've been googling on how to get whatsapp working on the N7 3G. I've found link after link where people have been trying and testing it, some with success, others failing. Almost all the guides mention the need for files such as AppGuard and BlueStacks etc.

After reading through pages and pages, it seemed like most people fell into one of these categories:
- they were trying to get it working on a rooted device
- they were using the wifi only N7
- they wanted the same number for whatsapp on their N7 as their phone

For me it was none of the above so in the end I thought I'd just try the obvious. I went to this link via the N7:
http://www.whatsapp.com/android/
Downloaded the latest version of whatsapp and installed it. It works! :p

Thanks for the link. The more I use the tablet, the more I think that a hand strap would be useful. Anyone using a handstrap case?

I had the poetic leather case which had strap and I think I used the strap once, just wasn't very comfortable to use. The case was nice, had a good feel, but just wasn't a very good fit. I ended up getting the case linked in your post and although it doesn't feel as nice it does fit very well.

Thank You... This sounds very interesting indeed! :)

If I am reading this correctly, by going to the link you posted it is possible to install Whatsapp on a 'stock' unrooted 3G version of the N7 with its own SIM card installed (in my case Vodafone)... yes?

It is just that I don't want to mess anything up!

That would also mean that could get rid of Go SMS, which I am using at the moment.

Can you see it in accounts in settings not in Calender? If you can try download a different calender. I don't use it so can't help you further sorry

Yes, that is correct.

I have an unrooted stock 3G N7 with an o2 sim inserted. Just go to the link I provided on your N7 and download the latest version of whatsapp. It installs fine even though you can't download it via the play store. Put in the mobile number and you're done, takes less then a minute and there's no faffing about involved. :)
