What did they do when they got to Brighton?

As this is the thing we have been trying to work out as to whether to do it. You can't go back by train on a bike. A friend did it once and used the service they provide with a coach and bike carriage, but he said he wouldn't use that again as they don't treat the bikes very well.

Obviously if it was a day ride, you could get there, have something to eat and drink and stay in a hotel.

Arriving in the morning and wanting to go to sleep, its a bit weird to then stay in a hotel.

So the only real option we could think of was as to whether somebody with a big enough car drives down the day before, find a place to park and then come back on the train.

Last time I rode to Brighton (Kingston to Worthing TT) we just jumped on the train to come back. The standard carriages had fold up seats at the ends with straps to keep your bike upright.

We set off at 6 and got to Worthing at 8.15 for breakfast. I think we were on the 9.30 train home.

If anyone is interested in my Threshold Test I did today

here it is :

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/270897246

Strava and Endemondo are useless for training as they wont tell you my workouts that ive set on my garmin

So if you look at that link,

i did a 20 min warm up (not timed so its not on there)
then i did the 30 min threshold test, and becuase i needed to get my average HR over the last 20 mins, i seperated it, so i did 10 mins @ 90-100 RPM and then I did 20 mins @ 90-100 RPM

then the 5 min ones after that is my 20 min cool down period

I assume that wasn't during an event though?
As when these offical events are on, they have the following restrictions:

• Southern Railway and First Capital Connect have special restrictions in place between 13 and 14 July 2013 - no bikes can be carried on their services. Please check with your local operator for any other restrictions.

Of course you can do an L2B anytime, but having the roads closed is nice....until you get to the big hills. All the people walking up and blocking the road make it impossible for those that want to power up the hills. I think I would fit flat pedals for the day as I saw many clip-less riders topple over on the hills last year due to the crowds.
If you leave early, like between 6-7am I found you're ahead of most of the riders and all the hills were clear for me. There were walkers, but there was a clear path for anyone who wanted a clear ride up :)

And having the roads closed is very nice, like you say.

I got the coach back. They gave you bubble wrap to roll the bike in before racking them up in the back of an artic. No problem for me, but I can easily understand people not wanting their £1k+ carbon bikes being shoved into a truck.

You get allocated a time slot though and I thought you can't "officially" leave earlier than that? Is it a case first come first served on the start times?

I also got the coach back last year, but this time I wouldn't want to put my Rose in the back of a lorry.

I spoke to him last night.

I'm not sure what to do then. I can get the Mrs (not actually a Mrs but you know what I mean) to mind my sprog for a couple of hours but definitely not for long enough to go on a decent run. I might just give it a miss and just run the rake and back solo. It'd be too gutting to get part way round a ride and have to turn back.

It'll give all you slackers chance to catch up on miles anyway ;)

I thought the Jersey option was a bit weird myself.

I mean, do you want to wear a jersey for an event that you aren't even part of?
It's a bit like going somewhere and buying the t-shirt from the gift shop, but not actually experiencing the ride/concert/etc yourself.

It just feels a bit strange to me.
As you might even get the question "Oh you are doing the Ride London?".... nope.

im still there Saturday :)

I just signed up for that.

I would imagine that it will be like the Sky Ride events, so probably not much chance of really getting any speed doing the loop, unless they plan to open early when it won't be too busy. Still, if they plan to have stands and cycling things it might be interesting.

Pretty tempted at one of these:

Most tempted I've been on anything since the Canyon's which have gone up around £240 since the GBP/EUR price has taken a battering.

Reviews are good and I like the traditional look over chunky head tubes and aero frames. This frame, DA 9000 groupset and my DA 9000 C24 wheelset. What do we think?

Speaking of Canyons...theyve lowered the components on the bikes. My TT bike last year cost 1300 with full ultegra. Now its 1500 with 105.

Found a pic of the same colourway frameset built up with DA 9000, only difference would be the wheels:
