Crucial m4 128 low 4K-64Thrd with AS SSD

What a sickener

Mine used to be faster than that, but now  & not 12 months old until April end

I don't know if I should take it back under the warranty

I forgot to ask how full is the drive? that will affect overall performance

usually a secure erase restores performance

I seem to be getting similar scores to your M4 with mine:/ it's not even really that old either probably coming up to a year now. Don't think it's a good sign and it's my OS drive as well D:

Edit:

Actually mine are worse. (probably due to the partition alignment which I should have fixed before a fresh windows install :/)

use paragon alignment tool,it fixes it without reinstall

That 31k bad would defo have a bad effect on your score.

I assume you're not using Win7? Win XP screws up alignment, whereas from what I've seen Win7 never does. As an aside if you have Vista that from what I've seen does give good alighment, but if you are using XP after creating the partition & formating the main drive, don't format again if you do install XP

You can do realignment with other free software from Linux, again it may be Gparted but my memory I'm afraid lets me down. BTW I have used it successfully, I'll try to find out for Defo what this software is & post it in here Morning or afternoon side, much later on today. Thurs.

Using Win7 64bit (pretty much have been since I got the SSD) kind of a pain in the ass the partitions always been badly aligned :/

Just spent hours trying to realign my partition using Gpart to no avail D:

TBH Ollie I found it took me ages to get my head round it & only used it on one occasion after which I thought I'm not going that route again & finally made the move to use Win7 permanently, I'd had win7 for 12 months in my desk but didn't like it, used to it now tho.
Sorry, I digress.

If I were you I'd re-install Win 7 again, the bit thats important arrives when Win 7 is ready to format the drive, you need to go in to the options menu (I think) & delete all prior partitions & allow Win 7 to create a new partitions ((there will be two) the smaller of which (100mb-ish) is used by the system) don't change the size of the partitions that 7 makes, the drive will then be perfectly aligned. :) (I hope) Well, they are for me anyway. :D

PS & Important I'm a silver old surfer, and may have explained the above badly, please feel free to add or make required corrections :)

I think I get what you're saying aha. So much effort I literally did it about 2 weeks ago :c Theres meant to be a way to bounce it around so it starts at 64 instead of 63 :/

I'm sorry Ollie, the 64 instead of 63 is a bit above me. :o

:D I'm lucky (maybe) I've got all day to faff with the PC I just wish I'd got a better understanding of all the whys, & why nots.

:o

Oh it's to do with the starting block where the memory is written for the partition :p old HDD's started on 63 and SSD's start on 64. I'll figure something out :) Might get a new SSD when I can afford to :p
